qwik240z
I know there is a difference between the Corvette and the Fbody oil pans but is there a difference between the different year Fbody oil pans? On my 2002, the oil filter is located towards the back on the drivers side. I thought they were all like this but then I saw the pics of the LS1 in the Z32 and his oil filter is close to the front of the motor on the drivers side. I don't know if he relocated it or if his is a different year LS1 or if his oil pan is from a truck/other vehicle. See it here: http://hybridz.org/nuke/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=27524&highlight=z32+ls1+pics Also, Can these oil pans be welded if they get a crack or do they need to be replaced? Thanks for the help!
DaleMX
The oil pan is a structural part of the engine and must be square. I would not recommend welding one. If you pull the pan you have to align it square with the rear of the block or the bellhousing wont go on correctly. That pan in the pic looks like it came from a Holden Montaro or maybe a new GTO. The regular F body oil pans are all the same as far as I know. Go over to LS1Tech.com and ask over there about the pan. Dale
Phantom
David - my LS1 is out of a '98 Camaro Z28 and its oil filter is in the same location as yours. It appears the F-bodies are all the same or at least all the years for the Camaro.
