Guest Anonymous
Sorry to post it here, didn't get any response under drivetrain forum. I am just about ready to install the LT1 & 4l60E in my '72 240z. I have seen where people speak of having to clearance (beat) the trans tunnel for the fat 4l60e trans to fit. Does anyone have pictures or can they tell me the areas of the trans tunnel that need the extra clearance for the trans. My car originally came with an auto trans, if it makes a difference. I tried the search function, but couldn't find any info related to where to clearance the tunnel. thanks for your help, Charlie
Mike C
I'm not sure if you will have to pound or not. The JTR manual says maybe slightly. You will have to remove the Datsun crossmember mounts, however.
zgeezer
I've the same combination in my '71. I had to remove the Datsun transmission mounts and move a section of the passenger side tunnel (about the size of a #10 food can lid) out about 1/2 inch. It provides clearance for that large cylinder that protrudes out the passenger side of the 4l60E. I cut an "X" moved out the side and rewelded. A BFH will work as well. gw
Kinked_Chrome
It fit fairly well into my 260, the only problem that I ran into was not making enought room for the TTC Switch, so i just relocated it.
