Guest taker1996
Hey guys I know this may be a n00b question for most of you. How can you tell if an engine is an LT1 by looking at it. I found a ex-police cruiser caprice that I may be able to get a good deal on, but I want to make sure I'm getting an LT1 before I try to get it. I know that some of those Caprices came with the "baby" LT1 but this one is definately a 350. I just didn't want to assume that all Police Caprices had the LT1 in them. I did a google search but couldn't find a definate answer. Any advise on other things I need to look at before getting this car would be greatly appreciated also. Tim240z
The LT1 intake is very unique looking and it will have the water pump driven off the cam (no belt) and will not have a rear mount distributor. Mine came out of a Z28, but the only real difference (apart from the air filer mount point) are the aluminum heads. The Block will be stamped 5.7 at the rear (or 4.3 if it's the "baby LT1"). What year is the cop car?
Guest taker1996
The year is a 92 I believe. I'm going to take another look at it today to make sure. Thanks for the description.
Tim240z
If it's a 92 then it's not an LT1
