Guest HolyLlama
Try changing the fuel pump relay under the hood, I've got an 80 model 280 that turned the fuel pump off within a second of turning the car on. I had to put a piece of plastic inside the relay to keep the pump from turning off once cranked. It was impossible to find the relay in parts stores because they changed relays in the middle of the year and Nissan didn't have the fuse available anymore. I think ever year after mid-80 used the same fuse, not sure though
Guest squalor
My fuel pump wont turn on either. My 76 280Z has been dead for 6 months because of this, I could really use some help. I know it's not dead cuz I can power it up with a battery charger. Where is this relay located under the hood ? Does it have a fuse or fusable link ? What else could keep my fuel pump from turning on ?
Guest 2slo4u
Mine sometimes won't turn on either. When I turn the key off and back on again, though, it comes on. Stays on fine when running, though. I don't know if it's ignition or fuel related, there are so many relays and it might not even be a relay. I'll be checking back here for sure. 81zxturbo 95slobaru impreza
stagefumer11
swap your ecu over with another one. and see if it comes right. over here its really common for all L serries motors ecu to have this problem. mine has it in my skyline. took 5 years for the ecu to finaly bite the dust. it had the common problem with the fuel pump not running and no power to the coil. hence car wouldnt go. it was interminit. sometimes it wouldnt do it for a few months. then it wouldnt go for a week............ the ecu finialy died yesterday. wouldnt run the injectors cycle so it was dumping fuel in.pretty nasty:) replaced it. b00m more power smoother and kicks every time i want it to
Forrest
FSM - failing that, the Haynes or Chilton will tell you exactly where the wiring and relays are. RTFM
Guest 2slo4u
I've pulled all ignition and fuel pump relays and opened them up. All worked when I applied power to them out of the car and the contact points were in good shape and connected well. Who knows, maybe after the 300zx ecu and mas and distributor swap, it will work normally. 81zxturbo 95slobaru impreza
Guest squalor
(sorry if I'm hihacking Cronic's thread but) Whats a ECU ? Whats FSM ? Where is my fuel pump relay ? I only have a Haynes book. Chapter 13 is pretty vague at showing the difference between a 240 and a 280. Is the fuel pump only supose to run for about 8 seconds if the key is on but the engine not started ? Mine wont turn on at all; I have to straight wire the +side to the battery to power the pump up. There are two wires that seem to go to the + battery terminal; they come from near a connector above the windshield washer supply line. What do they do ? The fuel problem is what made my Z stop running 6 months ago but it's not the reason it wouldn't start tonight. I know I have fuel going thru the filter; I've pulled the line to pump out the old fuel and I now have fresh fuel in the tank. I've pulled a plug and can see that it has spark. My air filter is ok. I put a big screw driver against a injector and listened as my son turned the car over but could not hear the injector click. Why will my car not start up ?
