Not that anyone here needs to be told this...

But you know... sometimes a compliment and thumbs up are in order, and I've just received a reminder over these last few days... everyone here deserves a big thanks, a hearty handshake, a pat on the back, thumbs up, etc.

I had already mentioned a few days ago that I was going to be buying a '91 Nissan Sentra SE-R, which I did. It's proving a great car, lots of fun so far, but as with any used car (and several new ones) it's not completely free of quirks, bugs, problems, etc. I find myself constantly tempted to come here and post questions and seek answers regarding this car (and I hope the mods dont mind if I sneak one or two in) but I have to remind myself... that we really want to keep the clutter to a minimum, and this IS a Z forum. So I search around and find some Sentra, SE-R, SR20DE, and general Nissan forums to post on, and start posting away. Anyways... I'm so used to this forum, where there are tons of guys who are very knowledgeable, friendly, and as helpful as any friend I've ever had. Some even go so far as to extend their knowledge and help beyond these forums, and offer their time w/o ever expecting anything in return. And you know... I go to other forums just kinda EXPECTING that same sort of camaraderie... and this doesn't just apply to car forums. I'm signed up with all kinds of forums for everything from computer tech help to video games to anime (japanese cartoons in case anyone doesn't know), just about every hobby I have, and you know... I have NEVER yet found one that was HALF as good as this one. For instance, the Sentra/SE-R forums... just lurking around on there... you just get this sense that everyone there is impatient, and rude, and every question annoys them. I think about 50% of the threads I"ve read have had one or several rude remarks left, some times for no apparent reason. And on top of that, half of my own posts, and many others I saw there, had no replies at all, even after being bumped several times by their writers. Again, that isn't the only forum I've seen that kind of pattern on....

Sorry if I'm getting a bit sentimental or anything :cry: But you know... if there was ONE place online that I would EVER almost want to consider maybe like... a home away from home or something, Hybrid Z is far and away that place. You guys have saved my ass and my sanity more times than I can count, and I'm sure many more times to come! I find that often think to myself, every time I go looking for help or advice on the web, regarding subjects other than my Z... I find myself thinking "man I hope this place is cool like HybridZ is" and to date it hasn't happened... I always get tempted to bring those questions here because I know that here I have a damn good chance that someone will know the answer or someone will be friendly and try their damndest to help me... but then I remember... gotta keep that clutter to a minimum :D:oops:

Thanks guys, to EVERYONE here, you guys are all awesome, and I'm glad to have the opportunity to 'hang around' such a great group of people :D:2thumbs::cheers::rockon:

I'll second that opinion ...

And add that, even though I generally lurk in the background and try to absorb as much data as I can, the people that frequent this board have set a *very* high bar when it comes to the level of knowledge, willingness to help, and camaraderie. In a sense, it sucks, because it has ruined my ability to tolerate the crap found elsewhere (and there is *so much* crap...)

On that note, bastaad, I have to say that during the two years or so you've been posting on the board, I've noticed that you have helped people once or twice yourself. Bravo to you, and all.

I was on the SR20DEFOURM for a few years and also on the mailing list. The main guys at the sr20 forum are great, but you do have to learn to deal with the couple of new guys that are just like the couple of new guys we get here. They are usually the youngens who "have been doing this all their life" that always cause the trouble, a little bit more over there as there are a lot more sentra's and they are a bit more appealing to the younger crowd. As a matter of fact, I believe John helped me out with a problem I had with my 91 NX while on the mailing list. Both are great resources. Also check out SE-R.NET. One of the best documented resources advailable. Enjoy the car, they are great.

I also second that comment.

Ive been a member of BMW, Plymouth, Pontiac and Porsche message boards, and nothing compares to the overall knowledge + willingness to help that I have witnessed here. I use to post on Zcar.com everyday, and always check out and try to help others when I could, but the amount of misinformation and rudeness that comes from some of those people is amazing.

I first started posting here a couple of years ago after a couple of years of lurking, when I finally did post a thought or question it was always answered with constructive thoughts or criticisms and 99% of the time, an overall better solution.

just recently I put a call out for help in Sacramento and sure enough, the next day I had somebody that didn't know anything about me volunteer to check out a 240Z thats for sale in that area. (thanks again Z-Dreamer!, I owe you one!) what a family we have here...

anywho, This is indeed my home away from home, and although I have not posted a technical question since my car went to paint (22 months ago)I feel that I can still post random questions I might have about school or any other topic, and still get a honest, informative, educated response.

So a big thanks to everyone for putting up with my sometimes bi-polar crap, and I promise that I will get my zcar back soon and really start to contribute to this site once again.

yeah I've already checked out SE-R.net, the SR20DE forums, and a general nissan forum. SE-R.net was packed with good info... turns out every problem this car I bought is having are relatively common... I think that's a good sign :D it's the problems that a car has that no other one of those cars has had that you have to worry about. Anyways, the SR20DE forums and Nissan forums have proved near useless. That mailing list is pretty much dead.

After being so used to having a great knowledge base to draw on regarding my Z... with the Sentra I feel pretty much alone :P Sucks booty....

Drove the Z last night for the first time in a week... man I had to totally readjust. To date the Z is the most unlike any other car I've driven, and really takes a whole different mindset, posture, attitude, and much higher level of concentration than any other car I've driven. Though at 'only' 200rwhp it's far from the fastest car on the planet, the thing is downright scary when you're not expecting it or have gotten 'un-used' to it after not driving it for a long time. I thought the SE-R was pretty quick... but the Z has gladly rearranged my perspective there :D I thought the Sentra was a great handling car, but it's likely stock suspension and front wheel drive cannot even come close to the eiback/tokico setup in my Z... the Z just seems much more stable, flat, and solid by comparison. After driving the Z again the Sentra just seems like a commuter car now. It's really given me some much needed appreciation for the true capabilities of this car that I've built (and I'm barely scratching the surface with my very mild setup) I wonder what it'd be like if my Z were even faster, with an I/C and more boost... the comparison would be that much more dramatic... the Z really is a much more focused car.

Of course, the sentra has made me all too aware of the Z's flaws as well... lots of creaks and rattles, the abundance of wonderful odors, and my LORD for the first time I realize just how sucky the stock 240 brakes are... pedal'o'mush! Far from perfect, but still immensely satisfying and fun to drive. Very glad I didn't end up selling it.
