Guest Xtinc
I'm rebuilding an L6 with L26 block, bored .030 and early E88 head, timing components are new and Felpro head gasket. The block was rebuilt before I purchased from a guy who abandoned his project, the block deck was shaved, but not sure how much, didn't see any stamping on the block. Head was slightly shaved to clean the surface. At TDC, using the #1 setting and timing links aligned with crank and camshaft timing marks, timing notch lines up perfect with cam thrust plate timing mark. No matter how I adjust the tension side guide I still get a 3/16" gap between the rear of the tensioner shoe and tensioner house. Is this a problem? clarkspeed
If your timing marks look good then you should be alright. I assume you have advanced the cam to compensate for the reduced deck hight since the marks line up. The only risk is the tensioner jumping out of the housing. If this happens you will have trouble. I think the "How to Modify Nissan OHC Engine" book covers some tricks to limit the travel of the tensioner.
Synlubes
Cly head new measures 4.25" (top to bottom). Since you have the frt cover off measure the frt of the head. If it`s been cut and the block has also been surfaced, you may need to shim the cam towers to pull some slack out of the chain. I think the cam tower shims come either 10 or 20 thousands thick (one of the other).
