Guest shakav
hi: i have just taken delivery of a 96 camaro lt1 engine, this week i expect the t5 delivery and the jtr install kit and the tbi wiring manual, less the hood brackets. i plan on a clean install with the battery moved aft. i may keep the air conditioning as well. this site has a treasure chest of info and i am grateful it is available to me and my son. if anyone has done an lt1 install and would like to share their experiences it would be a great help. we have a 73 shell. we are planning a motorsport aero kit, acura on handa seats, white face guages, corvette yellow with black trim. the engine will have block hugger headers, a few minor add-ons and a performance chip......we are looking at about 300 to 310 horsepower. we are very excited about our project. regards paul shakalis avshak@aol.com
pparaska
Welcome Paul! Sounds like one fun car! Of course, once you get used to 300 hp, upgrades will be easy . Cheers,
Tim240z
Hi Paul, I am in the throws of the LT1/T56 conversion. I have the engine in and the mount for the gearbox in place. I am 85% complete with the engine wiring harness (decided to do it myself with the FSM in hand). Still working on the header situation...blockhuggers come very (too)close to the plugs, water temp sender and the knock sensor would have to be relocated, so I am having some custom tri-y's made up. I think that the biggest obstacle, at least for me, has been figuring out the wiring. There are several options, from a new Painless harness ($600) to sending in the oem to have reconfigured, or DIY. A member here offered to do mine for a VERY reasonable price, but unless I am on the completely wrong path, it isn't that difficult, although time consuming....very time consuming. I think that by going the DIY route, I will have a much better understanding of all the functions controlled by the PCM, which can only be a benefit in the long run. Guest Russ240z
Well I am the new proud owner of Craig280z's LT1/4L60E car. Now begins the education on computer controlled engines! I found this thread while searching for info on the T5 trans ('89 WC). I already own the trans and don't really care for the 4L60E. Can the T5 handle the stock LT1 and what are the obstacles I should be aware of (I.E. computer issues)? Thanks Guys.
