RB26 Dipstick relocation

GTR-240Z

Recommended Posts

My RB26 is currently being overhauled by a Skyline specialist and I'm trying to source a Z31 200ZR sump for him to convert the RB to a rear bias sump. My question for anybody who's done this conversion is what did you do with the dipstick since the dipstick fits at the front of the engine.

How am I going to check my oil?

Thanks

Darren

I have a Z31 rear sump pan and pick up tube that I no longer need. They are both new, in the packaging from Nissan Japan. I purchased it for my RB26 swap into my 240Z, but I have sold my Z. I have recently purchased a '72 KGC10 Skyline that will now get the RB26. These cars are front sump from the factory, so these parts are now unneccessary. I'm looking for $400 U.S. Let me know if you are interested.

There is a pre-drilled hole in the rear of the block with a brass pin in it. After driving the pin out from inside the block, you could insert a new sleeve for the dipstick. Of course with the z31 sump you will have to use some trial and error to get the dipstick length correct. I'm not sure what Stony and Brad did on this, but they might have some pointers.

That is exactly what i did.

I currently have 2 dipsticks

I lost the brass plug :?

But what you can do is drive the plug out of the rear use it to plug the front. then either use the tube and stick from the front in the rear or make your own.

I cut off the gtr dipstick and used it to plug the tube in front and used the rb25 dipstick and tube in the rear. filled it with the recommended oil quanity and marked the stick.

Thanks Stony for you help. I was getting worried I would have to guess my oil level. Now I only have to worry about getting the engine to fit nicely once it's ready to collect from the guy's building my engine.

Then it's off to the bodyshop
