Project Silver Bullet - 240Z LS1 Swap Update # 10

Recommended Posts

Got the trans crossmember and air intake stuff from JTR yesterday. The crossmember looks to be an easy fit. I will just need to "massage" the trans tunnel a little on the passenger side.

The air intake stuff looks to be great quality stuff. There is a difference in the size of the hole that goes through the core support as compared to the 280Z. I am trying to run it to the passenger side where the in cabin cool air duct hooked up. The one Joey used is 3 1/2 " but it will not fit through mine as the hole is smaller.

I would like to use a reducer to allow a 3" piece of aluminum tube to go through the existing hole. Will reducing it to a 3" still provide enough air?

I will have a K & N up front to a 3" 90 degree elbow to a 3" aluminum pipe that will pass through the core support to a 3" to 3.5" 90 degree elbow to a 3.5" piece of aluminum pipe to a coupling to the MAS to a 3.5" to 4" 90 degree elbow to the throttle body.

MAS280 did you have to enlarge the hole in your core support??

Also, does anyone happen to know the size of the bolt on the stock auto trans mount?

I need to get a new nut as mine didn't come with one. I can pull the mount and take it with me but if you know the size it would be easier.

I will pull the motor this weekend to adjust the trans tunnel to fit the crossmember and then bolt up the trans and make sure everything fits properly. Then once I get the headers from Sanderson I will install them for a test fit. I should also have the computer and wiring harness back from Speartech in about 2 weeks. Once I have all that laid out, I will pull the motor again, and get to painting the engine compartment.

Finally I can get this moving.

David, Word to the wise... Test fit the tranny first. I beat the heck out of the tunnel on my 260Z only to find out the tranny would have fit fine without nearly the massaging! Mine was a standard 350 configuration, but was with a T56.

Mike,

The motor and trans are in the car now. I held the crossmember up to it last night and I can see where it needs to be adjusted. I need to dent in the tunnel a little for the crossmember hump to fit up in the tunnel on the passenger side.

Thanks!
