hanomon
The stock 280 fuel pump puts out 36.3psi. So, if the MSD 2225 puts out 43psi. supporting a 500hp motor, will the stock 280 pump be enough for the LT-1 300+hp? Is that 6.7psi difference between the two pumps equal to approx 200hp? I figure backing off or eliminating that stock damper that looks like a diaphramed regulator would give enough fuel at WOT with the stock 28lb/hr chevy injectors. Allthough the service manual states 45psi at WOT. I'd hate to get into lean firing at the high end. Might be worth the $80 for the MSD. What do you guys think? Tim240z
Better to be safe than sorry. The stock 280 pump will likely be OK as long as you don't run WOT for long, but a long term solution would be better. I have a 280ZX-Turbo pump that you are welcome to use. I don't know what the flow rate is on them, but maybe someone here will pipe in..... BTW...I've looked at the flow curve for the MSD pump and it is on the ragged edge of it's output for the LT1. IF you need a new pump anyways, get a Walbro 255lph pump, or I believe the V6 Toyota Pickup had a really nice Bosch external pump that has very good pressure and flow numbers. If your LT1 is putting out any more than stock HP, then upgrade to more than the MSD pump..... I also have a fuel pressure gauge that connects to the shraeder valve on the fuel rail....you can borrow it if you like....

mark
I ran a stock 280z pump with my stock lt-1 for several years with no issues. Mark
Guest bastaad525
Tim you still using your MSD pump? We had the same pump right? That pump should be more than enough for what I"m running now right? Eventually I may swap up to the Walbro... they are same size too right? Meaning I should just be able to slip the Walbro into the MSD brackets exactly the way you had installed it w/o having to change anything I hope? That'd be nice.
