SpeedRacer
David - I used the 1984 and up Corvette bellhousing/slave cylinder on my car. I have a custom made 26" Aeroquip stainless steel line on mine. I wanted a little extra so I could clamp it to the firewall to make things neat and out of the heat from the headers. Guest Anonymous
Well let me start with,I just did this and the hose wont be the problem, the bellhousing you use will make a great difference in this project of yours. If you use the stock chevy T5 b/housing then you will need to use the stock slave cyl. aswell and this is a prob because of the two different size bores on the slave and the master, the slave being 7/8" & the mastr. being 5/8".The problem here is that the master will not push the slave quit far enough to disingage the clutch, the cure I found was to use a 7/8"HOWE master from summit racing for about $60.00 and it will almost fit perfectly into the firewall,a small amount of deburing may be the only work to install it. Now there are a few shifter probs aswell when using the stock b/housing so if you want more info please E mail me and I will give you my # so you can call me,good luck. Guest Anonymous
Heres another thing that I forgot to mention, the stock chevy slave is plastic and wo'nt accept a normal hose so you either need to get the stock hose assymbly and modify it or do what I did,tap the plastic opening on the slave to accept a 1/8" pipe fitting and use a 1/8"pipe to number 4 an fitting thus creating your own style of hose, call me and if you want I will do it for you,it works great.I say that now
SpeedRacer
The Corvette bell housing doesn't mount the trans at the 14 degree angle like the Camaro AND uses an aluminum slave cylinder. All you have to do is remove the stop under the cliutch pedal (welded to the floor pan) and it will work fine with the stock master cylinder. Dan Juday
Ditto what FlameZWayne Said about the 3/4" master. I learned this the hard way. I used a 7/8" Tilton. Bolted right up. I also modified the Camaro plastic slave same way, the jtr way. Just be very careful when you drill and tap. Take it completely apart and clean it out completely when your done drilling and taping. I used a drill press, made it much easier. And, of coarse, don't over tighten the fitting. I used an off-the-shelf 24" XRP steel braided line with the fittings attached. Think it was about $18. Straight on one end and a 90* on the other. Here's a pic that might be helpful.
dsommer
Good info guys. I have the 7/8 Tilton unit (what, don't you think I read old posts? haha) Dan (thanks for the pic) are you running a T-5?) If so could you measure or do you remember the hose length. The shop I'm using for this said they would have NO PROBLEM connecting to the slave I've dismantled the slave and I cut the nylon (sp) tubing off the nipple. Bottom line, I need the hose length I'm guessing 26" will work I just don't want to buy 2 hoses. Thanks, ds
Dan Juday
Yes I'm using the f-body T5 with the 15* tilt. My hose is 24". With the 90* el on the master end it gives you a little more slack to route it along the firewall. If you go with straight ends 26" will probably give you similar results. Miles
For Dan: I like your throttle linkage. What throttle cable and firewall bracket did you use? I can't see in the picture what cable bracket you used on the carb end. Do you have a photo of the whole setup? Thanks Miles
