Guest RustedDevelopment
hello, i would like to get power windows for my '78 280. so far i found the autoloc ($325) and electric life (~$240). is there a cheaper alternative or is that the only option? electric life is supposedly one of the best. JaysZ
that SPAL system is incredibly cheap. $110 for two windows or is it PER window... the system on msa looks very similar to the SPAL one too. how is the quality of those? has anyone here converted their windows yet? thanks for the links! Hugh
I bought a SPAL actuator kit to put power locks in my wife's car. It was like $24 on Ebay, and the quality is great. The only problems I ran into with it were with my crappy installation. I think that has more bearing on the quality than anything else. If you do a good job putting them in, they should work fine. Before I thought the MSA kit was unique to the Z. Now I see it is universal like the rest..... damn. I'd wire the switches into the center console myself. It looks like crap to have those switches side mounted on the doors.
innerware
Thanks for those posts, that stuff from pals looks like all the other stuff that I have seen but for like half the price. Awesome
Guest RustedDevelopment
1bad180sx, i agree. i want to mount the switches by the gearbox similar to mercedes and bmw does theres. also, is there a way to go to a junkyard and get the whole system from a wrecked car or is it still better to buy the system new? p.s. this is Jaysz.. i accidentally made 2 accounts (one for work, one for home) thanks again! Hugh
My wife's Miata has the switches in the center, I like that a lot. The switch console from a Miata won't work, however... due to the angle it sits at. (you push down for the windows to go down, pull up to go up. This will really mess me up if I put them in the opposite direction.... every time I drive her car I'll be trying to put them down and they'll be going up. GHtokyo
Has anyone tried the Power Windows from 280zx in 280z? I mean, I might just wanna get the Spal system or similar. Those cable drive motors are pretty good. I think the install is a few hours on a good day.(yeah.. never) I have 280zx Parts car which I hope to swap the Power Locks over too. The control boxes are under the pass seat. I think the actuators would work on any locks. If I do it soon, I'll post pics.
Hugh
If you use the power locks and the relay wiring becomes difficult, you could probably just get a SPAL door lock relay kit. Or buy their universal kit and use the stock 280zx actuators if you can. Its not hard to do custom door locks... and they only cost $20-40 on Ebay. The SPAL kit is nice. JaysZ
so is there a difference between the cable driven spal kits or the autoloc worm driven kits? (or are they the same?)
hanomon
I installed a VPA set from Summit, it works great. Easy instal.
pjo046
Has anyone installed that SPAL-kit that there is a link to in one of the threads here? Is it hard to install into a 240Z? How is it done? If it's an easy thing to do I'll definately buy a kit.
VRJoe
I tried a 280ZX power window in my 78 280Z. Close, but no cigar. It is very close, but it would take a lot of modification to work. I'm leaning toward the Spal setup myself. - Joe
