Guest masonvonritchie
I'm thinking about putting a chevy 350 of somekind in my 280zx because i can't get the L28 to run. What all is involved in this swap? And I need some recommendations on specific engines and trannys.
Guest RunninOnEmpty
GET the GTR manual. Also, use the "search" feature and read some posts.
danc
Check for a May 17 2001 post under the topic of ZX SBC Conversion using MSA MOunts. There is a grocery list of piece/parts that will help. There is a wealth of info available to you with the search tool.
80LS1T
First off there is not a GTR manual...its JTR(Jags That Run). This manual that he is refering to is for the GEN 1 Z's not the GEN 2, however it is a very usefull book for understanding the basic things needed with a V8 swap into a Z. Next you need to do a search. There is tons of info on this site about V8 swaps and there a a pretty good handful of us 280ZX guys with V8's. Look up "Ross C" , "80LT1" "danc" "spedsk8r" "zeeboost", we have all done the V8 conversions and they all seem to be a little different. At this point I would have to recommend the LS1 engine. It is becoming extremly popular and parts are only getting cheap for it! Plus it makes a butt load of HP/TQ stock and the power band is huge! I wish I had gone that way. The LT1 is great engine and with the LS1 out there it makes parts for the LT1 even cheaper than the LS1 because everyone wants the LS1 stuff! Both engines are good swap canidates for a 280ZX, however the LS1 is a GEN III block and mounting will have to be fabricated. The LT1 still uses the GEN I mounting position so there are mounts out there that you can buy. Guy
