Fiberglass or CF hoods.

Ok I've used the search and from what I've gathered JC Whitney offers a good one and so does someone else but I have seen no pictures of the Cowled hoods at all. I also looked on JC whitney for any sort of price on a Fiberglass hood and the only thing I came up with was some tacky hot rod stick on or cut in. Could someone link me to the JC hood and could you post pics of your Cowled CF or Fiberglass hood? Thanks.

I found this site' date=' has anyone purchased one from here?

I ordered some stuff from these guys. I had to pay up front with a check...bad sign #1. Then it was like pulling teeth to get the parts. They claimed the delay was due to a shop move. I will not get parts from them again. There are other sources, such as Les @ Classic Datsun.

I met the owner of showcars-bodyparts and toured his shop about 2 months ago. Interesting character. Deeply religious, with religious pictures everywhere and some christian radio station playing. Kind of unusual for this neck of the woods. The shop was bursting at the seams with fiberglass molds for just about every make of car you could imaging. The lot around the shop was littered with dozens more. He took me to a barn not far from his shop that was filled from one end to the other on two stories with what seemed like enough sheet metal (hoods, fenders, doors, etc) to build a thousand classic cars. My friend who was with me said it reminded him of the final scene in Raiders of the Lost Arc where the Arc is being put in to storage in the warehouse which is filled with boxes as far as the eye can see. Somehow, he can find a specific part from memory!

Anyway, I'm not going to vouch for the guy, because I've never done business with him personally. But my friend decided to have some custom fenders done, and he's happy with the progress so far. He certainly didn't strike me as being a dishonest person. Just someone content to go about things at his own pace, which is slow...

I just bought a hood from reaction research. Very nice work. You must order it about a week or two in advance of when you want it (not sure about shipping costs, I went and picked it up personally). I ordered the hand laid version. Nice fit, comes with mounting hardware. He usually has some made a little over sized but did mine to the exact size and it was fine. It is easy to install and the only extra work you need to do is to drill two holes for the hood latch to bolt too. The cowl is not over done (too large) and is fuctional.

I'm also in the process of moulding his fiberglass hood vents into the cowl hood. They are a bolt on as well, but I want the hood to look like a one piece and his vents compliment the cowl very nicely. I'm actually doing a small write up (John will write it, we will edit) in the next issue of SZM on them.

I've read so many threads titled "stay away from showcars!" that I've lost count. I also know two people personally who dealt with them - both were unhappy. One canceled his order after 6 months, the other called them at least once a day for over a month (after his order was long long overdue) and he wasn't very impressed by the final product when he finally got it.

On the other hand, everything I've read and heard about Reaction has been very positive.

Good luck!

if you measure from the front point of the hood back 21", that is where the hood starts to rise and it should give you about 1 1/4" more room. Don't know if that's enough for you but it was plenty enough to clear my air cleaner.

I will atke a picture and email it to you directly.

Johnc was working on these no more than a couple months ago, I am not sure whether they are ready for production or not.

Still working on a cowl hood for the 240Z but its not as important right now. Seems the original person who wanted to do a group buy has vanished from the face of the earth. We've already pulled a splash from the Harwood Cobra R hood and have decided to make a complete cowl hood mold instead of trying to bond the cowl scoop onto my exiting 240Z hood. Still shooting for a retail price of undr $500 for a fiberglass cowl hood with a layer of CF and clear gel coat on top.

this is a showcars company hood and it went right on without any mods needing done. latch went right on also. closed nice and straight. wasnt too hard at all. very nice quality also. just bought it from the guy that ordered it from them and he did say it took months go finally get it and then ups billed him for duty fees the shipper didnt pay for. he wasnt pleased at all, but the quality is really good.

i only have one picture of the hood on the site in upper right corner but if someone wants more pictures of it just shoot me an email.
