innerware
simply enough your heater uses the heat from your engines radiator fluid. As the cars heats up the fluid is circulated throught the heater core and when you put the fan on it blows air over it transfering heat to the air. Simply run a line from your engine to the heater core. Make sure the core isn't leaking first if it hasn't had fluid in it in a while. I'm not sure from where to run the line though, can't remember. But that is how it works Im pretty sure.
deMideon
Yep it's very easy... take a look at my photos (see link under my name!), under the finished album, the picture 07110006 shows where the lines hook up to the engine. It doesn't seem to matter which line goes to which connection for the heater either!
datsun327
looked at the albu, is it the line running from the water pump? also whats the best wat to check for leaks in heater core
Synlubes
looked at the albu, is it the line running from the water pump? also whats the best wat to check for leaks in heater core Take it to a radiator shop and have it pressure tested, or fill with water and test with a small amount of REGULATED air pressure. deMideon
Yep! One line from the water pump, and one from the intake and yer set! The radiator shop is a very good idea. I just had my core go bad, a real pain to change it. Also make real sure your lines to the core are good too!
datsun327
can i buy any kind of water pumpm, or do only some kinds have the outlet to the heater core
deMideon
MMMmmm good question... As far as I know they will be fine. Maybe the electric ones wouldn't, but otherwise you should be fine. The most important things are that it is aluminum and that you match you other brackets and pulleys to the pump. Meaning for a long or short water pump. If ya don't match it, the pulleys won't line up. From what I understand the long is the easiest to find everything for and get to work properly. datsun327
do i have to make those 2 line or is there somewhere i can buy them.?
deMideon
I had to get fittings... your local parts store may have something. The actual line are just straight hoses.
260DET
That V8 would have originally been set up to run a heater wouldn't it? If the bits are no longer there go to a wrecker and look at a similar engine . You can buy the bits off it then. The heater hoses are the small ones somewhere around 30mm in diameter. Or one inch for you imperialists
deMideon
Oh yeah... I didn't think of that! The junk yard would have the parts!

datsun327
The most important things are that it is aluminum. why is this so important will a cast iron on mess things up or something?
