Samsung Dlp Tv, Got One???

Just to add to the DLP vs Plasma, with a half life of 30,000 hours, if you leave your plasma on 10 hours a day 365 days a year, it would take 8 years to reach it's half life and it will still be as bright as a DLP (not based on personal experience but from what I have read). Most plasmas today are rated higher than 30,000 hours. Of course price is a big deciding factor between the two.

I was going to get a DLP but I got a screaming deal on a 42" HD plasma that I could not refuse. I've been running VOOM through the DVI input and the HD channels are awsome. Just got a upscaling all region DVD player (can upscale to 720p and 1080i) but I haven't had a chance to calibrate it yet. Picture should be outstanding but not as good as true HD.

One more thing to keep in mind is that plasma's sometimes loose rows of pixels. I have a 42' Samsung and it happened to mine after one year of 12 to 14 hours a day of being on. The store I bought it from said they had more then one brought back with the same problem.

BayAreaZT,

What DVD player did you get, about how much was it? Let me know how you like it and if there really is a big difference in picture compared to regular 480p.

Thanks.

Oh, just watched LOST last night in HD, I still can't get over how friggin awesome the picture is!!!!!!

I got this one. It can play anything you throw at it.

It's only been on the market for 2 months so they are still working out a few bugs. Right out of the box the colors seem over saturated so you will have to adjust the settings on your TV. Tech support seems good and they were pretty quick to release the first firmware update. Keep in mind that it can only upscale through the DVI port and it can only output 480i through component. I just got mine this week so I haven't fully tested it yet. I hope I'm not disappointed because I already sold my new Sony player and my Denon. You can buy it on Amazon also.

Samsung, Zenith, Denon, and Panasonic make upscaling DVD player too but I don't think they are multi region. There's also a cheap Norcent player (less than $100)that will upscale through component if you don't have a spare DVI port or don't want to buy a switcher.

About the plasmas losing pixels, I wasn't too worried about it or the burn in problem because the store I bought it from has a legendary return policy (Costco). Basically, I can take it back anytime if something goes wrong and they really mean anytime.
