Guest JAMIE T Posted May 31, 2002 Share Posted May 31, 2002 My Z28 has been down for awhile, about 3 weeks. That was just for trouble shooting. So now I have found out that my car has eaten another Optispark. Well, it had a leak at the rear intake seal(another common problem), so I pulled the intake off, then went on to pull the waterpump off, then the balancer, then finally, I can see the Optispark distributer. Well, I was poking around on www.camaroz28.com and found a 4000mile old Optispark for $120(a good deal). Then, I was thinking, well, this thing is down this far, I may as well put a cam in, so I started looking the classifieds/buy/sell boards for a LT4 HOT cam. I found a new one for $150 shipped(still a good deal). Meanwhile, I wondering what I'm gonna do about valvesprings. So, I emailed the guy about it and we got in touch over the phone. We are talking the stuff, and he asks me if I need valvesprings/lock/retainers. Yep!, So I got NEW springs/locks/retainers/cam for $200 shipped. I called him back, and got the timing chain set off his un-run crate motor too. And of course, since the H2O pump is off, I may as well install a CSI elec. one, right. Sure, call Jegs. got one of them too. HMMM. the heads are coming off to install the new springs, yeah, I'll port'em, ya' know, since they are off anyway. Plus, I'm powder coating the intake(smoothing the rough cast finish too) and valve covers(since they are off anyway). Only thing I need now are some headers. BTW, I'm working an Ebay set of Crane Gold race rockers, 1.6RR to match the HOT cam. The car already has a Granetelli MAF and a BBK 52mm TB, and other minor bolt-ons. So, the wifes car is getting a little rowdy. Think she'll notice? She is getting tired of riding in the Ghetto Racer '71 240Z. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
