datsunlover
So it's winter here in Canada.. and tonite was just your average night; 15 below, snowing like a bugger, I'm working late.. yada yad.. Anyway.. I'm heading home and as I go over a bridge, I look off to the right and see a car in the middle of a parking lot. (this is a dirt lot next to a river.. boad launch/docks in the summer time) I see the reverse lights going on and off, so I figure they're stuck. I turn around and head back to help out... Holy monkey this guy is IN there!! Must have been 10" of thick heavy snow. And he was easily 75 feet from the main plowed road. He drove in and then thought it wasn't a good place to park, but when he reversed his Neon just sunk and sat on the frame. Just a FYI.. old Neons suck! No place to attach a chain properly! We ended up attaching a rope to the rear suspension arms, and after some swearing and cursing, I pulled him out. (I love 4x4.. I will never be without one now!) I noticed a lot of clothing/blankets/stuff in the car, but didn't say anything.. After he was out on the road again, he started telling me he's 'had a hard time lately.. evrything went for a crap in his life, and he's down to living in his car for now. Even thats going.. AC quit half way through the summer, and now the heater don't work so good.." He thanked me about 10 times, and gives me $20!! I didn't want to take his last $20 and told him so, but he wouldn't take it back!! Said he had some left and he'd be ok.. So.. do I feel bad now or what? GrayZee
You think -15c is cold? Right now it's -34c with a windchill factor that makes it feel more like -

Drax240z
I walked around the streets of Regina at -38C.......... in shorts and a T shirt. Well for 15 minutes anyway. Which let me go about a block, I was stopped by at least 10 people commenting on my attire. Passing cars were honking at me and giving me thumbs up out the windows. Crazy people. Coldest I've been out in for any length of time is -50C before windchill, windchill pushing it to about -70C. Balmy Prince George, BC! We hit -120C with windchill at the coal mine I used to work at. Imagine being on top of a mountain in the rockies, with no trees and you basically have the scenario. If we're talking snow, I lived in Revelstoke, BC for a few years. Highest snowfall in canada out of any municipality, averaging ~28feet per year. The point? After all this experience, I move to Vancouver Island, nice balmy weather. The valley I live in has the highest average temperature out of anywhere in Canada. Snow is a rarity... maybe a day or two of the year we get traces.... 5 minutes ago I just finished shoveling about 4", and we have had about 3' in the past week. The worst part... I'm driving the turbo Z in it!
dr_hunt
Vancouver is absolutely one of the most picturesque places I've ever been. I could live there absolutely anytime. I had a buddy that was from PEI on the other end of the country and he took me lobstering. Another fab place. While working for Schlumberger in '89 in Wy, we cemented a long string in an oil well in Buffalo basin by Cody at -65 below with 40mph winds over a three day period. It was so cold that we couldn't pump even heated water. As soon as it hit the iron pipes we laid on the ground it would flash freeze. We ended up with 50 guys with propane burners standing out there heating the pipes so we could pump our job. I didn't even know what cold was until then. In WY it only snows once, then it blows it back and forth across the state until it wears it out by March. I worked for the same company in Alaska in Dec and Jan and -65 was like everyday and the polar bears would come at night looking for tidbits whether they walked on two legs or not.
