Guest Cronic
Im sure that this has been covered a thousand times. However the search function isn't working very well for me.... so I'll ask here. What are the differences between the L28E and ET motors? Are the pistons still high temp cast? Can the hold, stock, about the same hp? Im thinking about moving my turbo setup to an N/A Motor, because I cracked the ringlands on my ER motor, and cannot find another one around. I had the stock one rebuilt, and the shop fucked something up (I think) and the motor is unuseable. I can find N/A's in the junkyards around here all the time, so Im wondering... why not turbo an N/A motor? I can take my P90A head and put it on the non-turbo block, with slightly raised compression (8.2:1 from what I've read), and, IF they are still high temp cast pistons, and forged rods like the L28ET motors... I can make slightly more hp/psi. So more safety and stability. I just wanted a motor in there to toy around with until I had the chance to put forged pistons in my turbo block. Anyone have any expierence with this? Thanks!
yo2001
only difference is the pistons. As long as you can keep the car from detonating, the N/A block handle boost fine. That's what I was running. Still running as far as I know
Guest Cronic
I would really like the higher compression. It would be much less stressful on the turbo, and make the same power as long as I could keep the tune in check. Does anyone have expierence with making over 300whp on the N/A pistons? Im curious if they too can support higher power numbers (over 350whp) like the Turbo pistons. I'd like to keep the boost below 21psi. lifegrddude
I may have to go this route too since my motor was damaged when my fuel pump died and I need to get my Z back up quickly for school. I talked to a guy selling an n/a motor that he said put 190psi on all 6 cylinders for a cold compression test, but to me that seems a bit high. Are those #'s correct? I thought n/a motors put ~175psi. This motor is a stock 83 motor by the way. Just want to know if maybe he's trying to blow some smoke by me. Thanks.
