383 240z
I know more than a few people here are in to rotarys and was wondering if anybody could help me. I'm looking to build a 200 RWHP 13B. Turbos are out of the picture. Too much money. Is this possiable? I need a recipe for this little beast PLEASE help if you can. I will be using a VERY open exhaust, and a Dellorto 48DHLA carb and a twin MSD 6 ingnition Thanks much. Keith
fl327
i dont know much about rotaries, but i do have a side project that ill probably get finished in the summertime that involves a rotary and a funny yellow car, to get 200 you have to do some port work, and in the end doing that versus dropping a turbo2 rotary is close, im looking at 150-175 with minor work and i think im overestimating that figure as well, i think the thing with rotaries without boost and a lot of money is putting it in the right chassis, 150hp and 1700lbs is gonna be a blast. Guest Anonymous
Why no turbo engine? my friends 1st gen 13b turbo is dyned at 417rwhp with ported rotors, racing bearing, 2mm apexs, RB header, 3" mandrel single exhaust w/no muffler or cat, Apexi Super afc, HKS dual ignition, REALLY BIG hks intercooler, 4 hks upgraded injectors, hks AIC, hks ssqv BOV, T-60 turbo, and a bunch of other stuff I cant think of. You should see the dyno results. Hes buying a Motec and I get a bunch of his "old" stuff. 280 will be The "power band" In that car looks neat! Meaning the engines torque curve. He has beat the local rich kid W/viper I laughed so hard at him at the next stop light he closed his little window and he probably cried. wouldnt even race again! In light of all that, I would get a turbo if I was you. Rotaries all last the same, in the aspect it matters "how" you abuse them not how often. He spins his engine 8-9000 w/ 16psi; Every race every gear. It made me get a turbo 280 not a NA. I have 85 12a w/5 speed I'll sell. Runs great, rebuilt by mazda before I got the car 15k ago, replaced clutch, throw out, pilot, and pressure plate 2k ago, new coils, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, changed oil every 2000 miles, and was serviced by a ASE mechanic who loves rotaries. If you buy it Ill include ANY part off the related stuff ie. choke pull, carbon canister, etc. No BS this is a good engine & tranny. $250 nego. My 1st gen RX-7 is gonna get a V-8 w/ alot of NOS email me ilikefastcarsdueyou@hotmail.com

383 240z
Thr main reason for no turbo is NO MONEY I have a brand new ported motor on its way the carb and intake I have is to good to toss and to expensive to sell if I could add a turbo to it I will but six port motor + turbo=big bucks! Guest shuyun
I beleve that if you fill out the rotor cavity, the rotors have a cavity cut into the surfaces between the apex seals. this icreases the compression. with a street ported motor the mazda mechanic that told me about doing this said that the motor would make more than the power you are looking for. not shure about the cost but he said he had done it on more than on of the motors. Send me an email i see if i can find out more info on this process. aag36@msstate.edu

Keith im sorry to burst your n/a bubble, but if you wanna build an n/a motor with that kind of hp, you will spend WAY more cash than if you just built a mild turbo motor that would put out more power. 383 240z
I found a way to solve my power problem. I just did the same as I did for my Z SMALL BLOCK CHEVY!!!!!!!! I popped for a good 350/700r4 combo and dropped her home here are a few pix.http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/rx7260z/lst?.dir=/V-8+RX-7&.view=t I hope you like them Keith
Guest Anonymous
Porting a 13B will get you 200hp but it will start to become unstreetable anything after that. Also with porting fuel economy takes a dive. Just one word of warning the flywheel nut is HUGE and you need special tools to get it off. I have a 12A motor sitting in my yard I wanted to take apart but got stalled at the flywheel.
Guest Anonymous
Guys here in Australia are seeing over 300hp on the engine dyno from naturally-aspirated, non-nitrous rotaries. Tough bridge ports are up so high as 330hp. A friend's engine recently was built, that hit the engine dyno.. made a nice 305hp at 10,200rpm. It's not cheap - well, it would be if you were paying in American dollars - and wouldn't idle so great, but with a good MoTeC system it'd still be drivable. Peripheral ports make well in excess of 300hp, too; but they're FAR less friendly on the street. These power figures are all at the engine..
