Guest shuey79
Hello, I have been looking for information on changing my R&P in my diff to a lower ratio. I have a 98 240sx with a r200v diff, 4.083 final drive. What I want is something like a 3.7FD. Does anyone know how I can get this? Do any Z's come with a r200v 3.7 Diff that would fit my car? Thanks
JMortensen
Maybe the 88 300ZX turbo special edition? One year only, and not all turbos were the special edition ones so good luck finding one. They came with VLSD, and I'm pretty sure 3.70's.

Have you tried other 200sx variants though? Over here the S13 200SX came with a 3.91:1 ratio, the S14 came with a 3.69 in the manual car and the 3.916 in the auto. Or if you really fancy a challenge then the R230 from a Z32 300ZX twin turbo is a 3.69:1 ratio, no idea if it can be shimmied into your motors subframe though. Whatever though swapping the complete diff will be hugely easier than doing a R&P swap as you won't have to worry about setting it all up correctly which is a bit of a nightmare Cheers, Rob
JMortensen
Oops forgot about the shortnosed R200.
2126
I believe the 240SX R200 diffs are the long nose type, unless the one I'm using grew to a long nose during shipping.
JMortensen
I think in the 240SX it changed somewhere along the line... probably right about the same time it changed in the 300ZX, would that be '90??? I got confused because I have a long nose 240SX diff too.
BlackBeaut
Just got the '98 240SX FSM from carfiche.com and it's showing a short nose R200 for that year. Now as it happens I have got a short nose R200V from an S14a with a 3.69 ratio but considering the cost of just the shipping I'll not even suggest making me an offer! I've absolutely no doubt that there is something closer to home that will do the job though. Cheers, Rob
Guest shuey79
Yeah its a short nose diff, i forgot to mention that. BlackBeaut, Is there a way to order the ring and pinion from a dealer for the s14a with the 3.69 ratio? I don't know what other options I have. I thought about buying a 86-89 300zx R&P set from www.courtesyparts.com and cutting it to make it fit in my diff but am unsure if that will work. Plus its too expensive. BlackBeaut
Hmmm! There has to be a Nissan car/truck/van in the US that uses a 3.69 R200V (48 tooth ring, 13 tooth pinion) that you can get hold of at a junkyard and just do a straight swap. Giving the guys at Courtesy Nissan a call (or your local dealer) though might not be too bad an idea as they might be able to tell you what model car you need to find at a JY. Did you guys not get the 200SX variant - not the SER front wheel drive thing but the RWD using either the 1.8 CA engine or the SR20DET? Somebody somewhere must know!!! I'm just not familiar enough with the Nissan range in the US to be able to say "go grab a '97 Maxima blah-de-blah model with the QX94TY engine". I really can't imagine it being possible to cut down a long nose pinion shaft, I would have though the areas where the bearings mount would be different and you'd also have to re-spline the end for the input flange to grip on. Plus doing a ring & pinion swap is not easy, especially as you're changing ratio. You'd need to reset all the bearing preloads and change the spacers used on the ring gear end to ensure correct wipe patterns etc., etc. etc. Cheers, Rob
Guest shuey79
US only got the 240sx with either the ka24e or ka24de. Both of them came with a FD of 4.08. There has got to be a R&P from another car that fits, i just don't know who to talk to about it. I will call up courtesynissan.com again and ask them if there is any other nissan car that would have it. The dealers around here really don't know jack so thats no help! I wish it was as easy as ordering the R&P where you live from a dealer and getting it sent over here to the US.
BlackBeaut
Hi, Don't know if you are checking here anymore but I can't send you an email through the site. I've just stripped a 3.7:1 diff - the LSD centre is going to Latvia of all places - so if you're still looking for a R&P I'm sure we can come to some kind of arrangement that will be a hell of a lot less than a Nissan dealer!
