datsunlover
Ok.. My engine builder came up today, we (and others) loaded up pickup trucks and moved to his 'new' shop. His ex is STILL being a stupid c*&t and not letting him remove his equipent/tools, but all the customers stuff was allowed out. My enigne/parts are out, he has the rest of the ordered parts, and sais he might have it together for next weekend. (He's assuming he can get the court order signed by a judge that will allow him to get HIS tools/ect) Not that I'm holding my breath... Here is my dilema; I have a line on a rusty but mint running 280zx for $1000. I have the cash availible because.. well, that's what I was going to use to pay for the engine rebuild/work. I figure I could go get this car, and take the drivetrain out in a few days. (might get some good spares/extras to; dizzy, rad, rear disks, ect) Another couple days work, it could be in my 280 and ready to roll.. Basicaly, I'd be screwing my engine builder a bit, as I wouldn't have the cash to pay HIM for another month or two.. So.. what would you guys do? Tim240z
Whoa....way to kick him while he's down! Seems like he is doing all he can to set things right...... On the other hand, you need to get your car rolling.....it comes down to you relationship with him, and your own mojo/karma....
datsunlover
Heh.. Well, I should elaborate a bit.. I wouldn't totaly screw him, I'd probly just get him to build the head (forget the whole engine thing) and whenever that was done, pay for it and slap it on. I'm thinking to that the zx will have the flat top pistons, and stronger block so it'd be a better chioce to 'build' off of in the future. I did my 'good deed' today as it is, and loaded a LOT of stuff into my truck (93 Nissan 4x4) AND helped unload it and another truck at his new place. Just in my truck, I'm talking 10 V8 blocks, cranks, heads, misc. boxes/buckets of hardware, valves, ect. I'm guessing I had at least 2500 pounds on.. my u-joints and leaf springs are already 'hurt' so it was a slow and shakey ride. I'm not planing on doing anything right away.. I'll give him till next week and see what happens.. I'm just thinking about the way things have been going, (the way his ex is behaving basicaly..) I could be into the end of another month and STILL not have a drivetrain in my car. The weather is warming, snow is melting, and DAMIT I just want to drive my car! EvilRufusKay
Tell him what you are thinking, if the parts are ordered and he put out to get them then it would be wrong to stiff, but if he can stop the order, or if you paid for them then no problem. Just let him know. I seriously doubt that he will get his tools, have them setup, and get your engine done in a week..oh yeah the court order as well? Never gonna happen...maybe a month, not a week. So in a sense is he really being honest with you? Optimism is ok, but reality is better. Good luck either way.
mario_82_ZXT
I know a lotta guys dog on th ZX, but don't take a RUNNING, MINT one off the road. Please, Mario
GrayZee
I know a lotta guys dog on th ZX' date=' but don't take a RUNNING, MINT one off the road. Please, Mario[/quote'] I totally agree that you shouldn't scrap a nice Z car for parts but by "running mint" I think he means it runs really good. The car itself is probably a basketcase rust-job. Think about it, he lives in Ontario, not Arizona.
datsunlover
Yes gray, you hit the nail on the head. Judging from the pics the guy emailed me, the front frame and fenders are shot, rockers and doors not so good looking, rear fenders bubling (I sence bondo..) and he TOLD me that the 'undercariage is pretty rusted. Was his daily driver till the floor got so bad his feet would get wet when driving in the rain. Dont get me wrong, I like the zx.. had one for my first car! Anyway, I've always wanted to chop up a 280zx and make a roadster anyway.. That was part of my reasoning for this as well.. Use the drivetrain for my 75 to get mobile for the summer, and if it's at all save-able, use the zx for convertable project.. Maybe I would still get the guy to build the engine (I mean, hes got it allready) , just to have something to use in the zx.. I dono..
