Guest tony78_280z
I got this temp sender from MSA http://www.zcarparts.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=10-1878&Category_Code=PRC01 It came with no instructions. Am I to assume I simply run wire from the back of the guage to this temperature sender? (Yellow wire from my diagram) And this will require no recalibration or modification to get an accurate temperature reading? Dang MSA and their crappy instructions! While I'm at it, any resources on how to calibrate a speedo cable? Some mathematical equation on determing what speed-o gear I need by considering my rearend ratio, tranny type and tire size? A link that does this math for me, perhaps? And what oil pressure sender can I use that will wire up to my guage with little or no fuss. (If you all tell me to use my ol L28 oil pressure sender bolted some place in my V8 block, I'm gonna have a fit. It is in the bottom of a deep garbage pit.) hanomon
If you're looking to calibrate it? The old boiling water and mercury bulb thermomiter or, verify with a infared/digital type. Speedo, The guys at JTR were a big help. The web is loaded with sites to caculate this. Do you want a direct or converted oil signal? I'm using the stock Datsun sending unit off the GM block (same threads) 1/4" NPT.
Guest black280
Tony, did you get your temp guage working? On my 76 I used the stock yellow wire with white stripe, found on drivers side of engine compartment. I found the wire by having key on and grounding wire to chasis, this moved the guage needle. I did not hook any wires to the stock guage.
wheelman
The MSA page says it's an adapter that accepts the Datsun sender. No picture but I'm assuming it's basically the same thing JTR sells that's a brass fitting that lets you use a Datsun temp sender in a V8. If this is the case then you also need the Datsun sender which then plugs into the yellow wire you mentioned with no other changes or calibration required. As for the oil pressure sender you can get one at a local parts store and yes you want to use the Datsun unit. It will screw right into the original pressure sender orifice, although you might want to set up a pressure switch that cuts off the fuel pump when oil pressure drops like the JTR manual shows. surpip
1985, it’s just an adapter that screws into the intake of the SBC then you install the Datsun temp sensor. Nothing special made out of brass looks like any other adapter.
