Anyone own a Mazda 6i (2.3)

mazda6 are good cars, just understeer a bit. mazda's interior is on par with luxury/german cars, it's exceptionally well done for average econosedans. That being said, mazda usually focuses on handling/feel rather than power, which is why mazda's power ratings are a bit below par with competition (ie. 200hp for the mazda6 vs. 255hp for altima 3.5se, 240hp for honda accord, etc)

Test one out and see how it feels. otherwise reliability's pretty decent, keep in mind mazda is 40% ford, and the mazda3 is a reskinned 2007 ford focus in the US, which is the current focus in Europe right now. Mazda b-series pickup is the ranger, etc...I don't know if any of the mazda6 shares components with ford counterparts.

I've owned several Mazdas in the past, and they have always been great cars. The power is not that important (Wife's car), but reliability and safety is, along with looks (for when I ring it's neck). I think I will go take it for a spin.....

I was hoping someone here owned one and had some info on reliability and marque specific mechanical quirks (all cars have them).....

Thanks Alex.

can't speak for the 6i, but I've tested out the mazda3 twice. tested the 2.3L hatchback and the 2.3L sedan. It was refined, good power, good handling. pretty comfy. I just didn't connect with it, but it seemed like a really nice car. Not too bad for the price either.

The Mazda 6 is based loosely on the Ford Taurus platform, although they don't share a ton of parts. I haven't driven an i, but I drove a 6s (with the 3.0) with a manual transmission. Pretty punchy given its low output. I second the opinion on the interior - very nice, especially given that it's a Ford-based product. From what I've heard, the 2.3 is a pretty nice motor with a lot of low-end torque for its size. Yay variable valve timing! I'd say give it a test drive to make sure you like it, as some people I've talked to said that they just don't fit comfortably in it. If everything checks out though, I'd say it's a pretty good buy.

My friend has a 6s auto that i have spent a great deal of time in. I love the car, it handled well, was decently quick in a straight line, braked well, had a nice interior and a solid feel. The only problems he has had with it have been 2 headlights burning out in 2 years, and some transmission quirks, though to be fair he beat the crap out of that car and I would expect some quirks from any car after that.
