Guest Anonymous
Hello all.. I have 2 1983 280 ZX's.Here is the stats of the cars. 1) 280ZX 2+2 Turbo 181,000 miles, I own it for 14 yrs and car is totally restored to factory condition and original not cracked dash board. 2) 280ZX 2 seater, just bought it few weeks ago for 450 dollars from this guys backyard, came out of 11 yrs of sitting. Car has only 61,000 miles on it and just got the engine started and running beautiful. My questions are; A) I would love to have chevy V8 power..Which car should I convert? I have never done this kind of work before. What is the first thing you would suggest as far as getting engine and all the parts? (car will stay as daily driver) Sorry for the long posting...but...I guess what a Z friends for
Mikelly
Rocky, Go to www.jagsthatrun.com and buy their books on the V8 conversion to datsun Zcars, and the fuelinjected manual as well. Don't worry that you have a ZX, as most all of the info applies to your car. Before you buy or do anything else, I would get those manuals and read them thoroughly. This will give you a good idea of IF you can or want to get into a project like this. It is no small task, and takes two of the following three things: Time, Money, Know-how. If you have Time and know-how, you can get by on the cheap. But without Know-how, you better have a lot of Money! I'd use the two-seater, strictly personal preference. We are here to help! MYRON
Yes, I would go with the 2 seater. You can use all the engine parts from the 2 seater to keep the already restored 4 seater running.
Guest Anonymous
Rocky Also a good piece of advice since you want a daily driver would be to get informed on your states emision regulations for a 1983 model year z, in texas you have to have what ever the car came with in 83,, i.e. smog pump , or heat riser, all of which are easily removed after you have your sticker, but you may want to plan ahead for the day you make it road ready... 2 cents worth ------------------ 74 260, early 350,K.B.pistons,edelbrock manifold, carb, and cam,202 cast iron heads.Let the transformation begin.
