ZR8ED
Hey guys. My Daily driver just had a bit of a melt down, and I'm thinking of a new car. I rely on this car heavily, and it has let me down twice this year. My 88 300zxt blew a head gasket, and possibly hydro'd a piston. Motor has 200,000kms on it, the air con compressor packed it in, and it could use some paint. I'm trying to decide to fix it, or start fresh. I only paid 3K for it almost 3yrs ago. I've wanted a new car for a year or so now, and I really like the new Altima. I test drove one tonight, and I really liked it, and I can get a not a bad deal on a 2002 model from a good friend at Nissan. I know everyone's situation is different, but what do you guys think? I already have 1 nice sports car (my 78 280).. and I like the idea of having a car that will start every time, need few repairs, and that I trust for a long trip. This car is a daily driver (300zxt) and it sees Canadian winters. Should I invest a few more $k into my daily driver, or get something more modern and reliable. A 300zxt is only worth a few $K anyways.. so I will not get any money back out of it... I do like the car, but it is definately not in mint shape. And if I do get and Altima, do you think my "ZR8ED 2" licence plate would look good on it? Any and all comments are appreciated, as well as comments on the Altima. I'm not sure what to do yet.... Thanks.

Guest Aaron
With that tag you go to get a new 350Z.
Guest zfan
First choice is the 350Z, Second the Altima 3.5. Mike
RPMS
Depreciation sucks, to the point where I can't in good conscience advise ANYONE to go with a brand new car, no matter how cool it is, unless they're planning on keeping it for ten years or more. Buying a two year old import car has the best chance of being a wise purchase, from a cost/benefit standpoint. But I've gotta admit, the new Altima is awfully cool. There's a guy across the street from me that has a black one, and it's not bad looking. And with 240 horses under the hood, that thing's gotta scoot! In a couple of years, I might well get one myself.
Guest SuperDave
I have a friend with one, and even with an automatic, it's rather quick. However, Altimas have reputations now, because everybody knows they've got serious power. If you're interested in something more sleeper-like, have a look into the new Accord Coupe. V6, 240hp, 6-speed......in an Accord.
Guest ON3GO
man o man. new altimas are great but to me its not a altima any more. more like a maxima to me. altimas have always been smaller, and not known for anything.... THATS WHY the older 1st and 2nd Gen ones are great to fix up. my friend has a 1999 Altima, has intake, exhaust, 17in rims, pulley, shaved emblems, clear courners and NOT one person knows its a altima. plus there begging for a KA24DE-T setup or a nice BlueBird SR20DET in it. that said i say for a new car the new altima is nice, but for 28K for the good one i say 350Z all the way! mike
ZR8ED
Thanks guys for the responses. I asked many friends and family what they thought as well. I needed some perspective because of the suddeness of the situation, the absolute chaos this past week finishing my 280 project, short handed at work for a week, etc... and the need for a non emotional response to my car breaking down. I went out a bought a silver 2003 Altima 3.5 with all the bells and whistles. It also happens to be the first new car I have ever bought for myself (exwifes new cars not withstanding) hehehe Thanks again. I'll be receiving the car later this week. I think the "ZR8ED 2" plate will look just fine on the car.
ZR8ED
I'm trying to sell the car as a whole, but am seriously considering parting it out. LSD and turbo engine, new tires, spare T/3 new tokico shocks, reasonable body.. chassis/frame is excellent. New boost guage, new speaker system etc. etc. etc.. I'd do ok parting it out.. I need $2K Cdn out of it.. and yes it will still start and run...

Guest Anonymous
My parents bought an Altima earlier this year and it has been a very dependable car (so far, knock on wood ) It has gone on many family trips, and many more bussiness trips. It is a 3.5 SE and it can haul @$$.
