sdawson
Hello, Question about the 3 way brake line connector in the rear. I have read that this connector is designed to leave some back pressure on the drum brakes and that when you convert to disc that you need to alter this connector. For those that have done the rear disc conversion, have you done anything to this item? Any infomation would be great. Thanks, Skip
2126
Since you haven't stated what year your Z is, I'll assume its a series I or II. On my conversion (actually its Terry Oxandales recomended conversion) I have 280ZX front calipers over turned down 300ZX vented rotors, a 15/16" MC, 280ZXT rear calipers over 280ZX rotors. The proportioning valve at the rear of the car (on early Zs and under the bonnet on later models)...I simply removed the internals from it. So now the old proportioning valve acts as just a T in the line. The brake bias is just fine for a street car.
Bartman
I have a similar setup as 2126, but my proportioning valve was in the engine compartment and the 3 way connector in the rear is just that (no proportioning). I removed the proportioning valve, added a Wilwood proportioning valve unit in the front and then used the rear 3 way connector from a 72 to split the brakes to my upgraded front disk brakes (4 x 4 Toyota Vented units). My car is a 73 by the way.
