Exhaust RB25DET manifold and intercooler pipe kit recommendation

Hey all, I am new to the forums and I been meandering the boards for the past week or so. I am currently working on a '76 280Z and am planning on an RB25DET transplant. I considered the RB26DETT, but being my first conversion project I didn't want to drop as much money all at once, an extra grand for 30 hp is not all that enticing since the money can be put to use else where when I don't plan on going over 400HP.

I haven't been able to find a thread on recommendations for an aftermarket exhaust manifold (top mount) or if anyone has been able to use a specific intercooler plumbing kit for an RB25DET in their S30. I have seen many posts about people who have made their own pipes (or contain dead links to questionable products), but I haven't been able to find measurements. I am pretty decent with fabrication but I have no tools/machines available to me, but I have LOTS of time. I would prefer to build a kit but I will have to settle for installing it myself if I can find a compatible plumbing kit.

I owned a '90 HCR-32 when I was stationed in Japan, so I am pretty familiar with the RB20DET, as I made many modifications to the engine and compartment, but mostly "bolt-on". Even though they were bolt on they helped out a lot, like moving the oil filter up top and towards the front and the coil packs to the top of the firewall, bov, oil cooler, intercooler, profec-e01 and emanage, turbo timer, etc. I should have brought it back with me but I wasn't ready to fork over 15k+ to MotoRex (I still can't believe they are the only RI in CA that do (advertise) Skyline spec conversions)... heck I could have bought a wrecked Z32 and done all the mods myself. The DOT Crash test results and and required modifications are listed on the DOT website... oh well, I wouldn't have been able to pay those 100% and 150% bonds. Between only an RI being able to work on the car and paying the bonds for spec (and CARB) is a real kick in the shin, so I am doing the next best thing (at least what I belive is).

A couple things... RBMotoring is a RI that imports cars or what not too. I'm not sure about the current situation with the DOT, but you can ask them if you really wanted.

And second, I think HKS makes full kits and manifolds for the RB25DET, but look to pay a very shiny penny. I can get them at wholesale but wholesale can only go so far on a high priced item like that.

Thank Master. But, nah, that's ok I won't go anywhere near RBmotoring/MotoRex. I'll just say it plainly, they are a business, but I just don't have that kinda bank roll to play with. I was just saying how surprised no one else has stepped up in the conversion arena for Skylines. They were able to keep the Crash Test Results private for a while until someone brought up a little something called the Freedom of Information Act. I knew it would be good for something other than nosey nobodies trying to dig into our Nation's secrets.

If anyone in the Serivce is reading this, I can give you every Standard Form (SF), document, what-have-you so you can hop on one leg with a rollerskate and hopefully glide through red tape to bring one back. But unless you can get your car into port in FL, NY or Canada to another RI and able to pay 250% of the cars value until the car is US Spec'd. You are stuck going through the aforementioned. Which isn't a bad thing, you just have to crack that piggy bank open. The real money is in parting the cars out and selling front clips.

:beatdeadh

Anyhow, enough ranting and raving... I just ordered a Neo 6 from Venus Auto (the last one in stock). So I am all kinds of happy now. They were closed for 2 weeks and it was starting to make me suspicious. I found out what happend (everyone took a vacation). Everyone needs a vacation!

I paid $3k and some change (3070 i think) for engine/tranny/ecu/harness/CA tax/shipping and liftgate service.

I am quite happy with my purchase. Now on the other hand I am gonna try and find a 240Z (possibly a '74 260, but not likely) to swap it into instead of my 280Z. Guess I will get some practice with restoration work and collect peices here and there before I go all out. I am not sure how much the 240Zs weigh (~2400lbs), but my '76 280Z weighs 3000lbs according to the sticker on the inside of the hood. 600lbs and my fat arse is a lot more to haul around, that and I don't have to worry about even "smog checking" it.

Oh well. Best of luck to you on your purchase as welll. Going to start searching all the classifieds I can, even if just for a dirt cheap rolling chassis.
