Guest tlmainiac
ok i have a vg30det sitting in my 86 300zx turbo.here is my problem i dont have a harness or ecu for the thing and dont really want stock ecu.im going to have to go standalone.so far i have narrowed it down to the microtech lt-12 and the halltech e 11.im leaning more to the microtech.does anyone here have any experience with these systems? which is more user friendly easier to tune and so forth.thanks fellas im new to the ecu tuning so im gonna need some help on this one
SR240Z
ON3GO should chime in here or if you can get in touch with alex costa he can definitely help you out with choosing one or the other, im pretty sure they both would say to go with the microtech

mtcookson
Actually... I would go with a stock ecu, but with the Zemulator. My friend has a VG30DET and was talking to JWT about it trying to find out what ecu setup to use. They said to use the Z32 n/a wiring harness and ecu with a reprogram (or using a Zemulator in this case). Tuning wise, the stock ecu with the Zemulator would probably be way more powerful than most of the standalone units out there. The only thing you don't have with a chipped ecu compared to stand alone is extra inputs/outputs. Other than that though, a stock ecu with the Zemulator (or even a romulator in that case) is usually a much better idea than stand alone. With the Zem option the standalones are pretty much a waste of money. If you're dead set on standalone though I've heard good things about Microtech. 260DET
The most important aspect is the choice of dyno tuner and what ECU he specialises in. You may have some choice in this, you may not, I don't know. Mine has a MoTec but I believe they are expensive in the US, it is an exquisite piece of equipment though, #1. Bernardd
Fuel wise a stock nissan ecu with some tuning will do everything you need to do. You can purchase consult software that will allow realtime maptracing that would make tuning really quick and easy. Until Nistune comes out the only trace software out is the conzult program or the PLMS datascan. All other software calculates where the ecu is reading data in the maps. If you're ok with that you can download free software that will do that at http://www.zcontrol.net Check out http://www.ztechz.net to see of ecu tuning is for you or download the zemulator manual. mtcookson
Looks like he's actually already been to the ECU forums over there and got the same answer as we gave here, basically.
