HarrisonTX
I have seen 2 people so far just stick an autometer gauge in the factory holes Can i see some more pictures of this? autometer makes these rings to angle the gauges towards the driver, can these fit. Did anyone have to trim, or did they fit right in. 2 1/16 right?
Guest scarab73
well no one makes a kit that I know of, but it is pretty easy to do. The 5" tach and speedo fit very nice and snug it the stock locations, you just have to rig a mount out of an L bracket or something; as for the little guys, 2 5/8" gauges fit the best in the holes but are not quite snug, I just wrapped mine with some universal weather stripping and it worked great. for the mounting I just gutted the stock gauges and mounted the auto meters in the stock gauge cups, you just have to cut the back out of the cups to accomidate the mechanical gauges. no sweat. HarrisonTX
Thanks man, now did you have a hard time gettin them to stay in there? were they snug? how did you mount the speedo and tach
280Zone
Someone used the same method that scrab73 described. Then they applied liberal amounts of black silicone to the back around the edge to keep them in place. I just wish they would have got them straighter. : )
RPMS
The speedo and tach are close fits - they just required about five turns of electrical tape around the bezels and they squeezed into place. Yeah, it's kind of a chickensh*t way to do it, but it's held up for several years now. Heck, IIRC, the gauge cluster in my Mercedes was a friction fit, too. No screws required. If Mercedes does it that way...
jbc3
Changing the Autometer gauges into the stock speedo and tach housings is very easy. Look at my pics/post http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=101620&highlight=autometer+gauges Jody
HarrisonTX
Wow, thats the best ive seen so far, do you have any pictures of the finshed product (not installed in the car) from behind? How did you get the gauge, to stick in the stock bezel... Man thats a slick lookin install.
BQR280Z
You can mount 2" gauges in the stock locations by stripping out clocks - they never seem to work anyway. The mounting portion of the clock will take 2" gauges perfectly then just reinstall with all Datsun parts. Bill
Lewis Maudlin
I used the stock housing for my autometer gauges. You can remove the housing with one screw. Take it out remove the old gauge and you can put the autometer gauges right in. I doesn't take 10 minutes to remove a housing. Take the cover off below the gauges and you can access all three. Remove the clock since it is electrical and get an autometer gauge. Pretty easy.
