Gollum
Ok, there's a Z that i'm going to go look at sometime tomarrow or friday. I don't have and cash in hand. BUT i'm willing to part with my ZX for a straight swap, depending on the other side of course. It's an S30, I need to find out what year, becuase I'm not gonna buy a Z that i have to smog. Now, my ZX is ultra low miles (JUST hit 33k today) but it needs some TLC. The engine is great, tranny is almost perfect (snycros aren't perfect in 2nd) and the rest of the driveline seems great. The rear left disk vibrates at 1800-2000 RPM and makes a funny sound that I origonally took for tranny noise... It also has some serface rust that would need weld work, not just sand & fill type stuff. The spare area is rusted pretty well too. The interior is 80% perfect, but out of a different car. The car is in great shape other than what I mentioned. Would it be a fair trade for a S30 'IF' it didn't have any rust? The car I'm going to look at looked like it had the origonal paint, wich had some small nicks and such, wich is to be expected. But if it's in working shape and such, should I bother with a trade? Or is my ZX worth way more? I've seen the 280ZX span a HUGE price range on collectorcartraderonline.com so I don't really know what people are buying them for. Ideas? Opinions? Oh yea, main reason I want to go with a S30 Z is the smog deal. I'm sick of not being able to touch my car without worrying about smog regulations. ULISES
I was going to buy a 74 260Z las week.It was listed on cl. My brother called the guy and asked is there was any rust. The guy said, "there was no rust." Just the usual cracket dash. I looked very nice on the pictures,He washed the car and quickly took pictures before drying it. Well we drove from San Jose to Manteca.About 1:15 each way and spent 3 minutes checking the POS.It was rusted from the bottom, and it was nasty on the inside.Turned back around and came home. I was hoping it had a bad engine,I have the whole drivetrain from my 77 280Z going out soon.So i wanted to use it on this car.Too Bad! I guess what i'm trying to say to check all cars very carefully. Gollum
Will heed the words for sure. I din't notice the spare area rust on my car before i bought it. Not that i can complain for 500 bucks though Yea, I'll check it up and down for rust. Battery tray, frame, floorpan, rear hatch. I'll check every crevice i can. I don't even want to deal with surface rust if i can get away with it.
