Zerrari GTO
Here is my situation: I have a 78 280Z that I am mounting a 2nd gen. RX7 fuel tank in so that I can run dual exhaust (the tank sits nicely in the middle of the car and has heat shields on both sides). I saw this done on the President of the Atlanta Z Club's car and it really turned out nicely. He cut out the sending unit mount from his 280 tank and brazed it onto the center of the RX7 tank. I pulled my sending unit out and it is in very poor condition (I can't beleive it worked when I was driving the car). I called around and the late model 77-78 sending unit is no longer available. I would like to use my factory gauges so I was wondering if there are alternative sending units that will work with the late model 280Z fuel gauge or if my only alternative is to get the RX7 sending unit and use it with an after market guage. I really would rather not use a salvaged 280Z sending unit. End of rant.
Mike kZ
According to my Motorsport catalog: 77- 78 sending unit is $73.35, part # 11-3274. Give them a call and find out. 1-800-633-6331
Zerrari GTO
How old is your catalog Mike? Their new one does not list the 77-78 sending unit. I emailed them and they were the first ones to tell me it was no longer available.
Mike kZ
You're right, it is an older catalog. I can't believe no one makes that part. Did you try a Nissan dealer? I wonder if a 240 one would work?
Phantom
Hmm, I think I have a functional used one in my garage that came off my '77. I may have tossed it but I'll take a look.

Phantom- If you have a good one please let me know!!! Mike-The 75-76 sending unit will not work in a 78 so I doubt a 240 unit will work (I'll check). The unit looks pretty simple; I wonder how hard it would be to fab. There is going to be a need for these in the future as old ones start to fail. rjc280z
I ran into that problem myself a few weeks ago on my 77. I ended up just cleaning the old one off real well. I cleaned the electrical parts with contact cleaner and a q-tip but be careful not to get the cotton fibers stuck in the wire. zcarsource.com offers refurbished units that run around $
