Sparks280zt
My grandma is trying to sell my deceased grandfather's old caddy. Its an early 90s with the Northstar engine. Car has 225k miles on it but it is complete and runs, has an overheating problem. Guess im asking what someone wanting to do a northstar swap would be willing to pay for a complete running car? crazy280
I remember reading that the Northstar can't be rebuilt, because you can't overbore the cylinders and you can't re-sleeve the block. I could be wrong here, but I'm 75% sure. GM sells brand new Northstar crate motors now, for a few grand. Hope this helps.
Guest Battle Pope
it's kinda like the VH45. They CAN be rebuilt - but it's been said that the only machine shops that can rebuild them to 100% factory specification are outside the country. zguy95135
Why rebuild it? You can buy a new one for 3K.
Sparks280zt
hmmm that sucks, what if i am wrong and this isnt a northstar motor? Whats the life span on a northstar motor? I mean this motor was still smoking the tires like crazy a month ago
