Which Diff

It's not the mustache bar that needs modifying. It is the transverse link directly below the mustache bar.

Oops - I stand corrected Jon:redface: . I know better than that too. I guess I confused the two since I also modified my mustache bar slightly but that was to adjust axle angles' date=' not to allow for the finned cover on the R200.

You may want to try this member here: Leith280zlt1. He's been building complete LSD diffs. He gets an R200 from the junkyard, pulls the open carrier then installs the Power Brute (same as Nissan) clutch LSD and ships it out. Seen posts from several happy customers, one today even.[/quote']

Dang - good information! I wish I'd known about him when I started my conversion.

I would think any competent shop could install the Power Brute carrier in any open R200 diff. Should be a lot cheaper to just have the carrier shipped overseas than an entire rear pumpkin.

Stock LSD's are hard to find and might be worn out by the time you do. Unless you find someone who doesn't know what they have, look to pay as much for the used LSD as you would for the power brute carrier.

I think the cheapest reliable option is to get a used R200 of the desired ratio and pay a shop in the UK $100 or what ever to put in the new LSD.

Thats great advice guy's,

My plan is to get as much of the items needed from the UK. This should save me a bundle from shipping.

I've not heard of the Power Brute before, is this a proper LSD or is it a few springs you add in?

I have been thinking about tis quite a bit. The car would be used for drifting as well, so I would ultimatly be requiring a 2-way LSD. So should I still get the case from the 87-89 300zxt, to add the lsd into?

Zfan,

I shall do a search for the cv upgrade from Ross.

Its good to get feedback from people that have already done the upgrade.

Many thanks

Erol

Hi Erol,

Yep the Power brute is a proper clutch pack LSD, completely replaces the centre section of the diff, it's not like the two bars of chocolate and curlywurly that make up the phoantom-grip.

If you're going to get an entire LSD unit, then there's no need to limit yourself to a 87-89 300zxt diff at all, just get hold of any long nose R200 in as close a ratio to what you need and you'll be set. Has to be said the commonest ratios in the UK for R200s are 3.5 and 3.7. There are rumoured to be 4.11 available from S12 Silvias that have the FJ20 engine in but I've never been able to track one down. Just to re-iterate, no UK Nissan ever came equipped stock with an LSD long nose R200 which is a real pain!

Cheers,

Rob

Thank you guy's,

that has helped alot. All i need now is to win the lottery for those cool billet items and possible power brute. I will then need to make time for it all to happen, or speak with local mechanic who specialises in all this stuff for drag racing.

Good luck to all working on their cars.

Erol
