Contrary to popular belief, all models are actually mechanically and structurally the same. The 240/60/80 were used because nissan had a surplus of different badges left over from an unsuccesful run of car in the early 60's... They just used the old badges on the Zs to cut down on costs.

They had different displacements.... 2.4L, 2.6L, and 2.8L.... Some had more smog stuff and safety stuff then others (bumpers).... Heavier lighter etc.

frame rails are different on the 240Z to 280Z..

280Z is heavier but stiffer also.

has thicker door beams and etc.

i still stick to my words when i say a 280z is a better street car then a 240Z when both have high power.. now a race car is a different story.
