I just had a bunch of flyers printed out that say "Your ricer SUCKS!" in large bold print. Since my work involves me driving around Phoenix all day, I figured I would leave them on cars that I felt worthy. I carry a one time use camera and am collecting pictures of the most ridiculous cars in town. I am currently building a website dedicated to making fun of them. If you have any pictures of stupid people in their stupid cars, please send the to me at ScaryFast240z@aol.com

Others have done WEB sites, as you know, and the threats they've gotten have been pretty bad - so far no one has managed to figure out who the kid is. Wouldn't it just suck if one of those flyers ended up on your car or some damage was done to your car? What about if they start dissing Domestics and some sort of "war" breaks out with each side vandalizing the others? This sort of crap happens here occasionally with guys snapping wings off of "ricers? and keying one another's cars. Do you really want to stir the pot on this one?

I look at it this way... I see kids going down th eroad trying to do anything they can to look "different". LED valve caps (I'm tempted to get a set for fun), LED washers, neon, the works. They're just trying to fix up the car they've got - just like most of us probably did as a kid and probably with a little better budget. Hell, I did all sorts of stuff to my Mom's Chevy Citation X11 when I was younger. It was a 6cylinder car with a stick and had some balls - small ones. Friends of mine kept trying to setup a race with one of the local clapped out Camaros firmly believing I had a chance of winning  Eventually Ford came out with a quick car I could afford and after owning and fixing up an 84 Mustang GT (did some stupied stuff to it too) I finally ended up with an 88 LX that got fixed up pretty good. Look around, except for buying an older muscle car, which many parents won't allow, these kids are stuck with wrong drive Hondas and Ford Focus. They're working with what they've got and our best way to get them to think differently is to set a good example and give them a ride in our cars - not bash them. malebitchslap.gif They'll get older and learn and be embarressed at what they did just like I am ;) Hell, I'm quite sure that most of them have never spent time in a fast V8 car or hopped up ZXT. They think what they drive is "fast yo'!" and considering that some of those cars come with as much or more power than my Mustang(s) did they probably give soem of th eDomestics a surpriuse with a few tweaks. I know a certain 455 Olds used to give my 84 Mustang HELL for awhile - a set of 3.73geard swapped from 2.73s and a new intake had him shifting at redline w/ignition breakup the following weekend instead of walking away. He still won but... I needed NAWS man, 2 bottles! Now, maybe if the Domestic car manufacturers would pull their heads out of their asses and build somehting to compete at reasonable prices... The Ford Focus, the WRX, possibly the Vibe, what else is there? Almost none of it is RWD and it's nearly as bad as the Hondas (okay the WRX is cool but where's the STI?) - the market won't support it and they've even killed off the Camaro! Hope the GTO kix ass but it's already got a waiting list supposedly :( The Lightnings maybe? The EVO? Who knows but Detroit has made some stupid moves with regards to the younger kids, they don't buy Hondas and rice them 'cause they like front wheel drive, they buy them because that's what's affordable, Mom will insure, and 'cause there's parts for them..

I'll step off my soapbox now... bonk.gif

P.S. One of the "kids" around here has a VR6 Golf (I think). It makes 300FWHP with a turbo and he wrenched it all himself. VERY understated but the local Camaro idiots who dyno right about 320RWHP laugh at him. I heard last Saturday that he's trying to get his hands on an AWD drivetrain setup and that another friend of his has the SAME 300horse setup in an older GTI or somesuch. I'd love to have this kid's turbo VR6 even if he couldn't get the AWD installed in it. Can't weigh very much and it sounds stock... :D

I did some pretty wild stuff with a '66 mustang when I first started fiberglassing. IMHO, the design was "out of the norm" and even as I look back on it 20 years later, I am a bit embarrased by what I came up with. Fortunately though, I had no one to tell me my "perfect and awesome design" really did suck, and I later went on perfect my concepts with more maturity and talents. Let's all be aware that one man's meat is another man's poison and promote customizing. Who knows what may come from one or more of these folks as they too mature and improve on their concepts of custom design. If you stomp on them too hard they may not come back up.

I have to agree, dissing someone's car ain't being cool IMHO. Those guys love they're cars as much as we do, you can't dictate tastes, thats why we started custom cars in this country, our freedom's protect our taste bad or otherwise.

Also, if someone finds out who's doing it (I.E. you're seen doing it) you might find a equally polite note scratched into your car. Let sleeping dogs lie I say.

Why does anyone let these guys bug you so much, I mean yeah I like laughing and us clowning a bit, but this almost boarders on hatred which I can't understand, they're just car guys with questionable taste, no crime. Just an opinion, but a bad intent nearly always is returned with a equally bad result.

Lone and others have a point about these ricer cars and their owners.I had been going to Cruise's in Oregon and quit going because it was the same old type of Hot Rod powered by the same type of engine trailered in for the occasion by the same type of owner and his old lady in matching pink jackets with Elvis Presley impersonators entertaining at the events.I like a rice variety from the montony of "meat and potatoes" .An old black and battered 34 Ford three window coupe pulled into a parts store recently and I could see some almost shiney parts on the flathead engine but what was really refreshing was the matrix brush strokes hand painted on the bruised body years ago.Someone sure loved that old Ford and managed a successful survival program for it over the years..I find these Ricer cars very entertaining and amusing but would stop short of insulting the proud owner by placing signs on their cars..(maybe dangerous to one's health)

Personally, it shouldn't bother you what these guys do to their cars since you don't run in those circles--does it really warrant putting a leaflet on their car telling them it sucks? I suppose it is more sane than defacing their car, but remember this: it is still someone's personal impression of what looks cool. If you offend them, you are looking for trouble. You are going out of your way to do something very unnecessary, and you should think twice before doing it. Plus, if you end up in front of judge, you will have to answer the question of why YOU started something...

Think about it; it's not funny or clever.

Put on your empathy shoes for a second.

If someone puts that kind of sign (or of any negative conitation) on your car that you've been modifying- intelligently and efficiently or not.. does "your car sucks" stop you from doing what you have been doing? I myself find it only more encouraging. Its funny how much negative enforcement you'll get from your "friends." At least with mine, none of them believe that a 16 year old (at the time) with a DATsun could get 300rwhp with the stock-rebuilt datsun motor. Not that it isn't possibly, just that I wasn't intuitive enough to handle it at the age. I compiled a pretty good list of their (parent's) cars I "would never be able to" (had to ;) ) beat:

Integra GSR ( )

'96 trans-am- LS1 automatic

'66 nova- w/ '89 vette 350, 600cfm holley

new vr6, stock.

and a whole slew of non-mentionables. Nothing worthwhile even, the fastest probably being the nova, run a low 14 bonk.gif

With a little anti-help from my friends, the challenges are put forth and push me the extra distance. The only thing that really stops me is time-->money. Time I have..

However, back to ricers.. i can appreciate someone who makes due with what they have.. but this has totally flipflopped. People SAVE UP for hondas when they could have easily inherited an eagle talon or something of the decently performing sort, instead they opted for the honda. I know because it was widespread during high school. Among the preppy kids mostly. They would always get beaten by the backwood folk ;) muscle cars, camaro's and chevelles and the sort. I'd say they're zealots, biased, and narrowminded. But then again, so are we.. most everyone is when it comes to their specific cars! You don't have to respect it, but slandering it is another thing. The concept of sinking to their own level also comes to mind... Luckily we'll always have an edge on em- we're faster in our light Z's. Old school imports make their own names. That's all I have to say about that.

I seems like I hit a sensitive nerve. I am not afraid to "offend" someone. In fact, I get a lot of enjoyment out of it. I can take what anyone eles has to say about what I have done or plan on doing to my car in stride. In fact I might print a few out with an e-mail address on it to see what some of them have to say. sour.gif

no, because it is not a ricer in my opinion. If it had a huge wing, a retarded body kit and stupidly over-sized wheels, yes i would.

aux your r/t is NOT rice! Its pure mopar muscle baby yeah!

I think Scaryfast is trying to go on a crusade to attack the far left of the rice crowd, there's obviously too many in the general public to hit. I could see it in order to do something like www.riceboypage.com guy did, going after those with rain gutter side skirts and triple decker up-force wings, and a bunch of geo storm type-r's nono.gifpuke.gif

Not to mention he turned in a Diablo SV

But the thing is the stuff was meant to be funny and it WAS, I laughed for hours looking at it. It was an effective assault on principle.

Fight the good fight, but I'm all for doing it the right way: not at the shows, not in the parking lot... on the street and the strip. May the force be with you, young jedi (where's the yoda gremlin?)

I'd be more inclined to post pics somewhere to snicker at than put flyers on a car. At least with pics people can make their own judgements whereas with a flyer you're being pretty obnoxious and asking for an assbeating.

I have to agree with the others who have posted here. I would rather see these KIDS in a Honda Civic than in a 350hp 2002 Camaro SS. They are just not ready for that kind of power. But, they still want to personalize their cars. I bust on them when I see them riding, my wife and I just laugh and point. But, we don't make it personal.

Tom,

Funny you mention body kits and spoilers. I was down in Mike Kelly's area yesterday with his step son in the car when I was getting gas at a local station. A young guy with a 2nd Gen RX-7 with dual stainless pipes that truly made a loud farting sound was complimenting on my Z and asked what body kit was on the front. It told him it was just an air dam that's been around for like 20 years. The moral of that story is that the car was DAMNED SEXY straight off the show room floor and didn't need a huge body kit to make it look good!

I'd leave the posing ricers alone. They may someday actually add some performance parts to their cars and decide that all the loud exterior stuff is not what they like anymore and all it does is get yo's from their buds, laughs from everybody else, and too much attention from the people with bubble gum machines on their roof of their cars :D .

My FD3 in a tunnel or under a bridge is MUSIC! That sucker sounds so nice when the second turbo comes on - it just screams like a formula car. Love that sound! Mine isn't so freeflowing it sounds like a burbling motorboat though ;)
