Hey there. I used to be a member of this forum in like 2001 when I had a Z. Anyways I was digging through all my old websites and I found my old V8Z page, so I put it back up. It has lots of pictures of my conversion in progress.

Actually i'm looking to give this website away cause I really don' thave a permanent location for it. Anyone want to have the website and host it?

whoops, it might help to give you the link:

WOW. that's so awesome. I'm glad the car's still around. That was my first car I ever did any work on so I apologize for any ghettoness you had to deal with. haha. At first i was like wow how could someone konw it's the same car, but I totally recognize the engine, that spikey steering wheel cover, my overzealous cutting job while i was fitting the prostick, the home depot vacuum line to the brake master, etc. What a walk down memory lane.

I see you moved the ignition box (that's probably a better place for it anyways). It still has that same por15 i put all over the engine bay. still has my ghetto power distribution knub. Looks like you got a new alternator (i suspect the the old one was causing the starter to fail constantly). Looks like you completely rewired it? I really miss that car and I'm glad someone who is competent ended up with it. If you don't mind, catch me up on how it's doing. It seems like it was another lifetime that I did all the work on that car. What's really funny is when I had that datsun, all I really inteded to do was change the brake calipers to the toyota 4 pistons and I ended up changing the whole car out!

Oh i just read back a couple pages of your posts for fun. Sorry about the crooked gauges hehehehe. If you read through all the pictures on that website you'll find out more on that. haha.

Are you the one who bought it from me in Austin? If you want the website I made, give me an email address and I'll send it to you. It's only 4 megabytes.

I think the car has changed hands a couple of times since you owned it. I got it from Projectsbz here in Chandler (suburb of Phoenix) AZ. He told me he got it from someone in Texas (I think on ebay). It seems that someone in Texas removed the wiring and then sold the car. Christian (Projectsbz) started re-wiring and then decided to trade me for a couple of cars that would meet his current needs. The pictures on the DZA website are what it looked like when I got it and I have changed a few things so far and got the dash and gauges re-installed in the car (no problems with the angled gauges, it took a lot of pressure off me getting the last one straight:) ).

I'll try and get some updated pictures up soon but stay in touch so I can ask you about anything else I might find :)

I'll PM you an email address for the site file.

A kid did buy it and lived in Flower Mound, right by Plano. I helped him work on it once. I wondered where that car went to. Had some potential but I guess the kid wasn't patient enough.

Nice to see it's alive...small world!

I had a feeling that kid would sell the car because he just didn't seem like the kind of person to want to sit down with a car and work on it.

Yeah after looking at the your pics i had a feeling it was right when you got it because it still had those pizza cutter viper radial GTs on them. Did the engine get rebuilt? I remember the person who bought it from me said something about him overheating the engine really bad one day. If you've ridden around in it now with the engine in the same condition it was in when i sold it, you'll be VERY VERY surprised how fast the engine really is when it is fresh.

When i first dropped that engine in the car, I gave my uncle a ride and he said he'd never ride with me again. I was going to UT at the time and tons of hondas and stuff would hear the lope and want to race. Talk about hilarious. I remember one time I was at a light next to an S4 and apparently he wanted to race (but he didn't let me know). The light turned green and i hear this Whoooosh of nitrous and i'm like woah he wants to race me, so I drop it in first and gun it. he had like over 1 second on me and I still catch him and win.

I believe desktop dyno rated the engine package at like 483-520 horsepower.

Anyhow, my email address will stay the same for a long time so if anything ever comes up you know where to find me.

I was told the engine was rebuilt but am beginning to not have much faith it what people say. You mention it has Dart Heads, did they have any markings that indicate that? The heads on it look like the ones in your pictures but I was thinking about pulling them off to "see what I have". I also am curious about the reason for the valve lash pads. This is a new thing to me for GM engines and wondered why they were used. I can only assume they were installed for the roller rocker clearance but it looks like they would work fine without them (of which one is!).

Any information you might still have around or in your head would be appreciated.

I got the website file so now I just need to figure out where to put itJ

Hmm. I'm pretty sure the heads you have on there are the advertised, dart II heads. Other than that, the only stuff I really know about the engine is what I have posted under engine on the website. I bought the engine from a guy in houston. He used to be on this forum. His s/n was "myron." I'm not sure if he's still around or not, but he's the one who built it and can tell you everything you want to know about it.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but i remember myron told me that it was good to lash the valves every 3-5k miles or so, something to do with the roller rockers? I'm not even sure if i remember that correctly.

But yeah, if the car doesn't destroy everything on the road, someone probably lied to you.

Lash pads are normally used to 1) protect the tips on titanium valves 2) provide more rocker to retainer clearance, or 3) correct the rocker arm geometry. If you replace it, be aware they come in different thicknesses. The missing one may be laying on the head somewhere, in the lifter valley, or the oil pan.

Long, it's good to see you back! Did you graduate from college yet? Will you start another V8Z? Funny, but yesterday I was thinking about all the people that fell through the rafters in this site over the years and I was remembering a number of guys including you. Good to see the site back up--I liked it then and I still like it now. I think it's helpful for anyone getting into to this hobby...

Cheers,

Davy

Sup Davy. Been a LOOONG time eh? But yeah I've graduated from college with a bio degree and now I'm in nursing school and looking to become a nurse anesthetist. Pretty amazing because my Z hobby began while i was still in HIGH school.

But nope, I don't have another Z yet. The reason I had to stop with my project was it was just costing me way too much money. One of these days though, once I'm done with all this school (probably like 5 more years) I'm gonna have money and another Z. So, until then, I'm sticking with a cheaper hobby, sport bikes .

Ugh, more and more school...

That will certainly keep you from getting into more V8Z cars for the moment anyway. You little brother should be getting into high school soon and maybe he'll catch the performance bug...or he may become addicted to Honda rice jobs and embarrass your whole family.

Anyway, good luck in nursing school--it'll pay well once you get out, but you might be so busy then that you'll end up buying a new 350Z instead! I'd host your site, but I don't have the means to do so. I felt it was one of the best since you are one of the only people I know that documented your Scarab to JTR swap. If I can just get my printer working I'll be downloading the information for sure.

Cheers,

Davy

  • 4 weeks later...

This thread brings back memories. I remember when Myron built that motor, and then had to sell it when he was forced to relocate because of downsizing at work. Myron had a lot of crappy luck over the years, from the job issues to having his place flooded and losing a lot of stuff in the flood (I remember significant house damage) to numerous other problems. I think Myron recently got another Zcar (Within the last year or so) and is doing another project.

Digging back in my grey matter, but I'm pretty sure his motor specs were similar to the 383 stroker I built and still have. If that motor isn't running that car deep into the 11s or high 10s, you've got issues. That thing should be tearing a new azz in everything north of low 11s. :2thumbs:

I am just getting this car ready for the track so we will see what kind of numbers i can pull with it. I am not sure if anything has been changed since it has changed hands a couple of times. BUT, if it pulls anything better than a 12.0 I'll be pissed since that will get me thrown off the track without having a roll bar. If that happens the engine will go in the Chevelle and I'll build something tame enough to stay right around low 12's.
