v80z
I wanted to take a poll. How many of you found yourself beating the firewall with a 5 lb maul to make room for the distributor cap. Oh yeah I already mounted the transmission.
getZ
I don't have a problem with clearance against the firewall. I used the JTR mounting kit and slotted the mounting holes as per JTR. Because of the transmission I'm running (200r4), I have the engine pushed as far toward the radiator as I could get. With the tranmission crossmember flush with the bottom of the floor pan, there was no room for the tranny cooler lines and that required a bit of sledge hammer engineering. Fitting an exhaust up tight required even more pounding away. I haven't seen pics of anybody that had to mash the firewall. Check out the member gallery section. There are a lot of good pics to give you an idea.
BrandonsZ
I did not have to touch it, the T56 with bellhousing was too big to get any closer than 1" from the firewall to the (non-hei) dist. the car lowered 1/2" front and 1/2" rear with alum heads, alum waterpump, intake, etc. So It was a well balanced addition of weight. I tried to install with the engine mounts right in the center of the original holes drilled out to 1/2" but had to slot them 1/2" forward to accomodate "issues" with the big bellhousing. Phantom
Me neither - LS1 doesn't have a distributor and it was mounted far enough forward anyway so it cleared the firewall connectors for the heater and AC coils.
Georgia Flash
No problems here either. I used the MSA mount system and did have to take the hammer to the passenger side tunnel for the cooling lines to fit but the firewall was fine. I am running the 700R4.
