Guest Anonymous
While I am a fan of drag racing, my big thing is autocross, GT, and road courses. Im wondering who here has taken racing classes as I have. I would heartily recommend them if you race at all, although it readily applies to regular driving as well. It saved my life on a canyon about a month ago.I learned much more than i expected. And is was fun as hell because i got to drive a real racecar!! Guest Anonymous
As a matter of fact i just talked to some people from two different racing schools to see how i could get started in racing as a career and all they could say was that the licenses they give are only good for their tracks and races they provide and dont really help to get a career going. It was just kind of a hobby thing that people do thats setup like a racing league but in all reality its all that want to pay $2500 for a 3day course that teaches you how to turn really fast using apex's and brakes at same time, and teaching you what all the buttons in a racecar do, and give you a license so you can pay to use their track. I was highly disapointed as i would actually like to make racing a career for myself. Maybe you have found an actual real driving school to where you can compete??? Im all earsand would definitely love to take some REAL courses.

Tim240z
TM240Z....I think that our logon names are going to cause some identity confusion. If you don't think so, then don't hassle, but you may want to make it a bit more unique Otherwise don't worry...I don't care. TimZ
Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving...Great place to learn road racing skills. Bridgestone Winter Driving School...great compliment to the road race stuff, this course concentrates on low coefficient of friction driving - 1 mile course, 9 turns with changes in elevation, all snow and ice covered, top speed of around 70mph . Pro Rally style driving techniques (lots of driving sideways). Plus, it's in Steamboat Springs, CO. ASET Evaluator Training Course... this was a company-sponsered (not available to the public) course for training development engineers to correlate subjective driving impressions to objective measures. Guest Anonymous
actually, i took a class in SoCal, at pomona raceway. just driving techniques that improve alertness and reaction times by quite a bit. what im really excited about is rally school. i dont care what anyone says, rally racing is the most difficult form of car racing on the planet. it aint easy to go 140 mph through snow, mud, and ice with big, immovable trees on either side. god i love rallying
Bob_H
You don't have to go to full blown racing classes to get time on track with good instruction. Many clubs offer weekend courses where you can get 2+ hours of on track time with an instructor. The typical cost is in the $200-400 per weekend. For that price, you get two days at a track, with usually 4 20-25 min sessions on track. Compared to an autocross or anything else, it is a lot of time on track learning you and your car. Groups like the BMW club, the Porsche club, Audi/miata,etc... And there are dedicated groups for instructing like Tracktime, Car Guys, etc.. Do a google search for High Performance Drivers Education and you will be surprised what you find. I instruct with NASA. It is a group that combines the HPDE's with racing groups. it is great to go to a race and watch American Iron, Honda Challenge, spec racers on the same day you are on the track. E-mail if you have specific questions,(I tend to forget where I posted and don't check the threads..). -Bob
Drax240z
Local driving school I did gave me probably 2 hours of track time, mostly with an instructor riding along for $100. Hard to beat that.
silicone boy
I agree with Doody. Rally drivers are the best I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. They basically drive really fast under all traction conditions without the benefit of ever seeing the course ahead of time.
