RPMS
Saw the new Z on the freeway today (in a metallic gold color) and several things drew my attention: 1) the front end view looks aggressive without looking "mean". Sort of homogenized. Safe. 2) The door handles stick out WAY too far. 3) The rear end looks like the butt of a Honda Insight, but a bit wider and lower. The rear hatch glass seems tiny, and the taillights are...cosmetically challenged. Much to big an expanse of plain, flat plastic back there. 4) It's much smaller than it looks in the pictures. I know opinions vary greatly within the Z community, but I for one am sorely disappointed in the looks of this new Z. It could be the most technically competent piece of machinery on the road, and I'd still be disappointed. In a way I'm glad I don't like it. If it were gorgeous, I'd want one. As it it is, I'm much happier with the looks of my 28 year old version.
Sumo
I saw one of the new Z's too, and i agree with with everything RPMS stated. The only thing i liked was the interior and power train. But i guess having a new Z is better than having no Z.
Guest Anonymous
I saw one at work the other day. It was black and driven by an old couple. Im more excited that the Z is again being produced more than the actual car.
Guest zfan
My wife would kill for one. I said maybe next year after they work the bugs out of the first years flaws. Mike
speeder
I want to like this car, but I can't. The styling is butt ugly and derivative. Audi knock - off with Toyota headlights, weird rear end and gimmicky door handles. 3320 lb. is way too heavy unless you have Corvette - level horsepower. This is not a Z. I'll stay stuck in the 70s, thank you.
pparaska
I'm with you guys. Rick, you sound like how I describe the new Z. It has grown on me a bit. I've gone from thinking it was the ugliest sports car on the road to it's not THAT ugly - but still ugly. After there are more sitting in dealer lots (instead of being sold before they arrive), a local V8Z buddy and I are planning to drive up to a dealer one Saturday afternoon in our V8Z's and see which cars garner more attention. Anyone want to take any bets?
SleeperZ
I also saw one on the road a couple weeks ago. I was way disappointed. I really disliked the lights in the rear - that lower light looked out of place angled in from the side wrapping around. And the front fender lines viewed from the rear seemed strange - the hood line is very angular, sort of like a Cougar (hate that car!), but the fender line bulged with a curve under the hood line - they didn't seem to match. Oh well, I've always bought used cars, maybe if it grows on me, I'll buy one in a few years...
RPMS
After seeing a couple of them on the road now, I have to admit that they have a few good angles. The only one that I don't think I'll eventually come to grips with is the rear end. The rear window seems too high up and too small to counterbalance that visual wasteland of featureless metal and plastic. I'd imagine that they'll put styling cues on the rear bumper in the next year or two to improve things.
randy 77zt
i spotted a new 350z while on vacation in cancun mexico last week.nissan is bigger than toytoa & honda down there.renault& nissan dealer are together.they also have peugeot and seat(spanish vw) too.only thing more common than nissan is vw.if you want a golf 1.8t you have to get an audi a3.i would like a 6 speed 350z with the track option(brembo brakes and better suspension). Guest greimann
One word: Infiniti G35 Coupe. Ok, thats 3 words . It is the car that fixes the styling miscues that the 350Z has, and is seriously on my radar screen!
pparaska
Dave, I agree completely. So you lose 7hp. Big deal. Maybe gain a bit of weight? The styling is way better, IMO. There are a bunch of people on the IZCC list saying the same thing - Nissan fixed alot of styling goof ups on the 350Z when they brought out the G35C!
