qwik240z
I spoke to the guys at Vintage Air about the different evaporators. I have narrowed it down to 2 units. Both are GEN II units. The Compac and the Mini. They say the Compac will move more air then the Mini and will provide more heat and cooling. The dimensions for both units are close in size. The Compac measures 20.5" wide by 9" high by 7.75" deep The mini measures 19" wide by 9" high by 7.3" deep. Des anyone know if the Compac will fit ok.? I think there is enough room for the extra 1.5" of width and the height on both is the same so it comes down to the depth. Is there enough room for the extra 1/2"? Anyone running the GEN II Compac? Thanks.
Bartman
I asked the same question in the Vintage Air thread I started a couple of months ago: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=105929
qwik240z
I asked the same question in the Vintage Air thread I started a couple of months ago:http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=105929 I read the entire thread before I asked this but I figured that since no one had responded about the Compac unit, maybe they had missed the thread. It was worth a shot. If anyone has their dash out a a 240Z and would be willing to take some measurements for me, please PM me. I need to know if a box that measures 20.5" wide by 9" high by 7.75" deep will fit in place of the stock heating box. Thanks.
fastzcars
Do what Vintage Air suggest's, make a carboard box of that siaze and check to see if it fit's. It think it should fit. You just can't go too far to the driver side, because of the accelerator pedel. One morething, the vent hoses that come from V/A are a great fit for the stock vents. NO adapters required. Jolane
Qwik, Can you update this thread with any information you have found. I was wonder the exact same question a few weeks ago after looking at the VA website. Additional questions (thinking out loud): Are the hose inlets/outlets in the same places? Electrical? Ducts? Maybe one fits better than another just due to these things also, regardless of size... Thanks, Joshua
Bartman
Based on the advice from VA and the fact that fastzcars uses a mini with "more than enough air for his car", I fiigured there's no reason to go with the larger Compac. I may remove my dash this weekend for my install so I can take pictures and measurements. I don't know when my parts wil arrive, but I'll be sure to provide an update when I get everything and start placing the evaporator. I think the stock blower motor unit sat down too far below the dash, so I the new evaporator with heat/cool/defrost will actually clean up the interior as well as provide superior performance. I think the penalty will be a loss of most of the glovebox.
