Zhadman
One of the complaints I have had about this RB forum is that there is allot of speculation and allot of young kids putting in there 2 cents when they don’t know what the hell they are talking about (please know one take offense). Not that I'm disagreeing (and I'm definately not taking offense), but here's why: Rb motors are relatively new on US soil and not too many people know allot about them So, for the most part, individuals only have the internet to fall back upon as a resource... and the internet is full of mis-information. Sure, there's an enormous wealth of RB tuning information in Japan... but like Matt said: ...the industry is more tight-lipped then ever I have several RB-specific books that appear to contain alot of good information, but alas... I can't read Japanese! There are always those that think they know everything, but have little or no usefull practical knowledge. Matt should most definately be thanked for sharing his knowledge and experience.
cygnusx1
I'm not trying to be a wise *** but why is an RB break-in different than say an L28 break-in? Aren't they all made of the same materials? Iron, Steel, Aluminum... ...or is it the clearances that make it different?
HakosukaJD
On new ones, don't know. On rebuilds, here is what I was told. First start, mineral oil, 2500-3500 RPM for approximately 15 minutes. After that drive it normally, but stay below .5 bar for the first 500km, below 1.0 for the next 500km. Change to synthetic and rag away. This is from a mechanic who worked for NISMO for a number of years before opening his own shop. He now is a subcontractor for Mine's on their builds. He assisted me on a boreup and rebuild on my RB. Guest GTR--J
New engines are not tested. Delivery time depends on Stock. If Nissan has them in stock, it's usually less than a week for the dealer to receive it. Want me to check stock? Hey cheftrd if you can check the stock @ Kanagawa Nissan and get any information from them that would be most appreciated. All I get from my dealer is, he asks once a week and all they say is "it's not ready".There is some sort of "top secret curtain" or something. My friend bought a factory R33 crankshaft that was made to order and that took 3 months to make. This is the time line I have finally accepted. This engine has been on oder for 6 weeks now! Nissan is no longer producing/selling new long block RB26 engines for the 32 or 33. Nissan is selling overhauled engines, but requires a core. They may be having an engine assembled for you out of new parts. Still, I can do that in one day with parts on hand.
