240ZRX
Where is the best place to mount the fuel pump. I am using the stock 240Z tank, and want to know where the best place to mount the pump. Also the tank has just been the Tank Re-Nu route so will I have to install a filter between tank and pump. Search had nothing on subject. JMortensen
Not enough info. Electric pump? Carbed or FI? For carbed, keep the pump as close to the tank as possible. I used two holes in the front of the tank to mount a bracket that I attached a Carter pump to on my L6. So that's pretty easy. For FI you'll find a lot of people complaining of fuel starvation in corners especially when the fuel level gets low. There are some good threads about surge tanks, and that's what I would recommend for that instance. Low pressure carb pump feeds a small maybe 12 oz tank. There should be a return line going back to the gas tank at the top of the surge tank. Then at the bottom the FI line should attach, then a filter, then the FI pump. That's the way I would do it. If you're going FI do a search, I think Tim240z had a really good thread showing pics of his surge tank.
getZ
I assume you are running a small block chevy. If you are using JTR mounts you cannot fit a mechanical pump. My 72 came with an after market sway bar and I landed up using the passenger side sway bar mount, which hangs below the fuel tank. It is also a fairly rigid mount to the body. I can get a picture if you need one. My gas tank is also sumped drag racing style with the pickup running from the front instead of the out the back. Carbs also can have a fuel starvation problem if you are cornering hard for a long time or have thirsty car and accelerate long enough. My friends son has a carbed v-8 240 and it starves under hard acceleration. The only reason he hasn't fixed it is because he thinks it keeps his kid from going out and killing himself. The engine sputters if you are on it too long!
