Guest tork dork
I'm sort of new here but I got a couple of questions. maybe they deserve seperate threads but maybe not. first of all I was thinking of doing to toyota four piston caliper upgrade but isn't there a balance between how much the front wheel brakes compared to the back. and wont it be thrown off if you put a brake with a larger piston area in the front. I know when I was learning to drive a motorcycle I had to learn to break 70/30 depending slightly on road conditions. Also I saw a thread about welding the doors to stiffen the chasis. And I got thinking. when you step into a jeep the body comes up the side a good eight inches on some of them. so I was wondering if anyone here has tried anything with cutting off the bottom of the doors, say maybe another eight to ten inches and building the body up to them. Couldn't you get the nearly the same effect as welding the doors this way? and thirdly I have an unknown object on my z on the firewall in the engine bay. it definitely is an oil pump. when I first got my z it had a hose with a fitting screwed into the oil filter hole. then the filter would screw onto that. Does anyone have any ideas why I would have this secondary oil pump? also it has another hose with a quick disconnect that connects onto the pump body. Lunar240z
wilwood proportioning valve lets you adjust the front/rear bias.
ARZ_
Lots will disagree but by the time you get most of the components for your Toy 4 piston caliper kit you will be within 200 dollars of a Wilwood brake kit that is better quality and weighs a bunch less and looks Hella sweet. Jeep Doors are a whole lot simpler than Z doors. Also I have never seen someone raise a Jeep door. Not saying it hasent been done but welding a door closed isnt the best way to make a Z stronger. Also Jeep half doors dont have windows in them to roll down. Not sure where your going with that one??? Thats not an oil pump, its a remote oil filter. A remote oil pump would have to be powered by some serious motor. If you had a remote sump it would be gear driven and have multiple return/sump lines and big hoses (more than 2) attached to the bottom of the oil pan (like the fittings on the AZC oil pan) http://www.arizonazcar.com/pan.html . While you are there look at the brakes.
pete280z
If you're talking about "Jeeps" meaning CJ/YJ/TJ models, those are body-on-frame vehicles. Our Zs have a unit body design. Apples and oranges. I've got no idea about what kind of strength you might get out of welding all or a portion of the doors though...
