Project Update

It's been a long time since I've put an update on here so..

Been rather busy in the garage lately. I've finally finished all my wiring in the engine bay. Didn't turn out as neat and tidy as I hoped, but it's very functional and flexible for any future upgrades. Great for when I convert to F.I. I still have to tape it all up and wire loom it.

The stock engine bay harness is a joke! So many wires crimped to the same gauge over and over again. No wonder there are always wiring grimlins in the Z's.

I almost have the interior done. I have to redo the headliner since the vinyl came loose from the pad. Thanks MSA. The seats should be done next week. I did all the rest of the vinyl work with some help from my mother inlaws sewing machine. The rear strut towers and wheel wells are now one piece. One side is alittle loose. I'm hoping that once it gets alittle warmer I can get some of the wrinkles out. You can see more interior pics in my album. The new rear carpet is 1 inch short, but I bought it 5 years ago and the company I got it from is nolonger on ebay so..I'll figure something out. Maybe leave it out in the sun and stretch it.

Alittle blurry:

I'm now in the process of finishing the head work and then I can stab the rebuilt motor in. I'll be putting the ZTherapy carbs on the turbo motor for now. I can't afford the rest of the turbo components I need to get intime for the convention at the end of May.

As she sits right now:

Acouple more things to buy for the exterior that I can't bring myself to buy at the prices I'm seeing for them, but eventually...

Hope you enjoyed the update.

Patients. lol

I've had this Z for about 9 years now.

She sat waiting on me to work on her for, oh, about 4 years.

Spent 5 months in the garage getting the suspension done.

She spent 11 months in paint jail and has to be repainted thanks to the painter.

She's been in the garage now for over a year, I think. It's been to long.

Patients has definitely been a virtue.

Another update!

I got the head put back together last night. $16 dollars worth of stainless steel allen bolts just to put the fuel pump cover, front cover and engine hook on. I'll post some pics Monday. Now if I can scrounge up the money for head studs on top of the $495 for the refinishing of the seats. Is there a cheaper place to get them besides ebay @ $126=$8shipping? I can't seem to find the link on Summit.

Back on the 14th I picked up my seats and I think they turned out great. Once the weather warms up alittle the wrinkles should relax. Wait. What am I saying, we had a record high yesterday of 101*. Anyways. After pricing redoing stock seats I decided to just have my other seats redone. They are out of a '94 Eclipse. I bought them about 4 years ago and they got pretty fubarred at the painters, so I added some custom touches to match the rest of the interior I have done. Let me know what you think.

Did you get hit with the rolling blackouts too? Nice job on the "Z" logo on the headrest. :2thumbs: Todays weather is going to be a replay of yesterdays, you should have those wrinkles out in no time.

Very very nice. Who did the sewing?

Oh yes it got hot in Plano yesterday too.

RPM Designs in Haltom City did the stitch work on the seats and Stitch Concepts did the logo. It cost $40 to have the logo digitized and $5 per seat to put the logo on the head rest, but now that I have paid for the digitizing I'm considering having them put "260Z" at the base of the door panels I'm making.

Yes, another hot day. Was there ever a winter in Texas? I really have to get my a/c fixed.

I didn't have any rolling blackouts at home, but when I got to work my PC was all jacked up. Our alarm system and all battery back-ups were having fits and the time clock was screwed. Who said deregulation in Texas wouldn't become like California?

If you have dial up DO NOT try to supersize!

Well, it's been alittle while since an update. After my tranny I.D. post didn't get an answer I just said screw it and I'll put it in and see what happens.

As for the engine, it's mostly together excluding some parts that are polished that I can't decide if I want clear powdercoated. I think I should but this is turning into a money pit and I'm in the pit and all the money is Gone!

Couple pics from my album (Valve cover is just temporary):

My mess of a garage:

Once I figure out how to make the momentary switch work with this antenna I'll be able to install the left tail light and be done with all lights. Then I have the door panels left to make to match the seats and find someone that has the right headliner spray to keep it up. I've tried the 3M stuff (among others) following their instructions to a tee and using my own methods, being I use adhesives at work that are similiar and it will stay for awhile(longer with my method) and then I'll get in one day and drag my head on the liner.

On a side note, if anyone knows where to get another one of these rims, let me know!! I want a 5th before I get them powdercoated. 4 lug is what I need though. Pic is just better for reference. Western Wheels 14x6 (I think, I'll edit after I get home):

Thats it for now. Maybe in another few years I'll have the motor actually IN the car instead of beside it.

Hey at least the wiring is all new, and YOU know where and what everything is for.

don't go overkill with neatness. Minor details can come later.. Get the car running..

Once you do that, you will see what I mean... there is always more details to work out once you see it running everyday..always something to change/modify to suit your "NEW" z habits.

Congrats on the progress.

Been awhile since my last update.

The sad part is I've been waiting for the extra time and money to get one $20 bulkhead -6AN fitting for the turbo oil drain line, for when I go turbo. I didn't want to pull the motor later to put the fitting in the oil pan. Fitting is just capped for now. It clears the exhaust by 1/8". If I would have used the stock turbo oil pan with the stock oil drain tube sticking out I would have had interference with the exhaust.

The motor is finally in! Been about 6 years since the last time I put a motor in this Z. Been almost 3 since I pulled the last one and the engine bay has been empty until now. I wasn't sure if I could get it in with the intake and exhaust bolted on. The 6 to 1 had me worried, but it went in without a fuss. I didn't want to try it with the SU's on though.

I started hooking everything up. I goofed and dropped the powder coated water pump pulley. I'm not going to worry about that now. You can hardly see it anyways. Thats it for now. Hopefully I can get this thing running in the next couple of weeks.

I deleted some old pics to make room for the new. Previous links to pics are now fubarred.

P.S. my first pic has a rim in it. Does anyone know where to get one like this except in Z 4 lug?
