v80z
I hear a grinding noise in the rear on deceleration. After inspection I found the inner tulips of my 280zxt cvs are rubbing the upper stampings of the lower control arms near the pivot pins. The tulips nearest the diff. Is this why the upper washers of the moustache bar are removed ? To raise the diff in relation to the control arms? What else to be done? I am not running a rear sway. Thanks
blueovalz
This is the first time I've ever heard of the ZXT case rubbing on the CA. It's been a while since I've looked at a stock rear end, but don't the upper washers have the rubber absorber bonded onto them? I would look at everything first, FRONT and rear mounts and bolts and make sure everything is as it should be.
cygnusx1
I posted this after I got my setup all done. I took the top washers out of the mustache bar bushings. This raised the diff by the thickness of the washers (3/16"?). It was enough to add more space. Mine never rubbed but it looked close so I deleted the upper washers. Oh by the way I run hard urethane bushings back there and from the looks of your ride...so should you
v80z
Thanks Terry I had the whole rear end out withing the past 3months. Looks like I gotta go through it again. Where the spindle pin goes through the control arm joint toward centerlin of the car. the CA stamping has a rise there. Maybe just some clearancing with a minigrinder is necessary. cygnusx1
A little grindage should work. You could also drop the mustasche bar and slot the holes up a little bit...maybe.
v80z
Well unslung the rear end today and removed the top washers from the moustache bar. Reassembled. Still not happy with the clearance. Mainly on the passenger side. Unmounted passenger CA. Broke out the angle grinder and did some plastic surgery. Reassembled. Drove it in to work tonight, ER UH I mean test drove it, with some fresh telltale paint on the joint. I will check it tomorrow. As Always THANKS. Paz8
Check your rear diff. mount, it acts as the third mounting point for the entire rear sub frame assy. anything wrong will effect the entire rear suspension.
