Guest Anonymous
I was looking at the rear control arms on my Z and considering replacing the attachment points where the control arm attaches to the spindle( that thing no one can remove without heat and cussing) with adjustable heim joints. It seems this would be a reasonable way to gain some camber adjustment and maybe some toe adjustment also. Has anyone ever seen, heard or thought of this? Does anyone sell these parts or do this modificaton? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Mark
Mikelly
Arizona Zcar used to sell control arms just like those you describe. Chris and I have those on our list of things to work up... Out of Curiosety, How many guys would be interested in those if we could make up enough sets? We could sell them on an excahnge policy... We'll send you the modified units and you send us your stock ones in return.. Obviously we would have to charge for the parts and shipping and beer money... Arizona Zcar was selling these things for a pretty penny... Drax240z
I interested, depending on price. (of course) What did Arizona Z car sell them for? ------------------ "Gimme Fuel, Gimme Fire, Gimme that which I desire" -Metallica Drax240z 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html
Guest Anonymous
I would be very willing to pay to have this done. I really don't want to reinvent the wheel here but I also want it done this winter. Also what is the deal, Mike with your front control arms? Might as well do those while I'm at it. randy 77zt
i would be interested in some lower controlarms for rear that could be adjusted from underneath while on alignment rack.the arizone z car arms looked like you would have to pull the pivot bolt to twist heim joint to adjust-not easy.i dont like the sound of camber plates rattling behind my head but i re-align car before track events to set it up-so now i have camber plates.i would like a car that has no rattles but can still be set up for the track. Guest scca
i dont know how much i like their fronts with the TC built in.. i would prefer 2 separate items like stock but do the upgrade to a heim or a rabbit toe rod end for the frame side. the rears to make the camber adj from underneath would involve and extra 4 hiems than they use and would need to move the adj to the other end (if you copy the layout they used.) why would you need exchange a-arms???i dont see any original nissan metal in theirs? high quality race heims are $25 ea or so 6 of them plus tubing- nuts jam nuts etc and the rear arms would have to be more than the $250 AZZ are. i think their style could be done for about $150ea ------------------ Mike mike@fonebooth.com http://www.fonebooth.com/brakes.html raceparts and brake upgrades. Mikelly
Yea, SCCA is in the Ball Park, plus shipping.. My front control arms leave the factory TC mount... I only have the tubing and heim joint that tun to the cross member. Those would be easier to do. Two less tubes and joints... It still wouldn't be "Easy" to adjust the rears, but you could adjust them. My question would be to put them inboard our outboard... Might have to play a bit with it. Bottom line is though that you would have to send me yours in excahnge because I don't have bunches of them laying around. I'll talk to Chris this weekend and see what we can come up with! Guest scca
inboard looks like it may be easier to make and adjust as well. you could either make a full fabricated a-arm or modify one, with shipping arms and then someone having to have their car apart or they have spare arms- it makes more sense to have a few sets and do a exchange basis or go all out and make full custom ones without exchange. it wont be that much more after you subtract the shipping to receive the cores.. ------------------ Mike mike@fonebooth.com http://www.fonebooth.com/brakes.html raceparts and brake upgrades. Guest Anonymous
Put me down for a set of front and rear control arms if they are adjustable on the car. Would make alignment much simpler and allow changes for track and street without having to have it aligned or set up strings. Let me know. Mikelly
SCCA, I agree.. except I don't have a lot of them on hand... I have two Zcars, and Chris has one... So We'll probably use one of the ones that is apart to make the beginning set and play with them on one of the cars to make sure we get the ginds of adjustments that people want... However, everyone take note... a warning will come with these parts as they will have no warranty expressed or implied and should be used for race applications only (The lawyer in me coming out...)! BLKMGK
Mike, my blue car is still up for being parted out. Just not had time and it's been damned cold. Anyway, if you need a set of arms to play with I may have some available. I know one of th earms on my red car is dinged so I may want to swap it out anyway. Red car is now home at last and so is the motor so as time allows I'm up for swapping stuff, building stuff, and generally getting the show on the road! So - suspension first or motor swap? Mikelly
Do suspesnion and brakes first... then get your wiring in order... then the motor and trans! Thats what I would do!
