Guest abnormal0
my ignition module went bad, and I have a spare accel 300+ ignition box. Can it replace my module or does it have to be run with it?
dot
Here is the link for the manual http://go.mrgasket.com/pdf/49300.pdf This is the link for other manuals http://www.accel-ignition.com/InstructionSheetsList.aspx?BrandID=3 I think it depends on the box number. Hope this helps.
Guest abnormal0
what is an odd fire V6, and is my VG30E an odd fire v6 motor?
Guest abnormal0
On a lot of the diagrams, it shows distributors and what not and there is an ignition module inside those distributors, then should I have an ignition module? which diagram would the crankshaft sensor, or stator pickup, on the VG30E apply to? It's in the distributor like an ignition module but its a crankshaft sensor and the module is on the fender next to the coil.
mtcookson
what is an odd fire V6, and is my VG30E an odd fire v6 motor? VG is an even fire. An odd fire engine essentially fires at "alternating" crank angles.
Guest ZFury
Yes your ignition/distributor & ecu needs to be working for you to use your box.

Nice question, I've emailed Accel asking which of their systems will suit a VG30DET engine, to replace the coil over plug system. That engine of course has no distributor. That engine of course has no distributor. Is there such thing as a VG30DET? I thought it was a VG30DETT, that goes in a 90-96 300zx twin turbo. I have a VG30E, a single over-head cam with a distributor and it is a non-turbo motor, that goes in the 84-89 300zx and in many pathfinders, frontiers, and maybe other stuff. I hope you asked accel the question for the right motor. One major problem that I am having with my 300zx is the when everything supposedly works and its all hooked up, I go to crank it and it turns over and fires but once it tries to run it dies, someone told me that the ecu has a startup configuration in it that lets the motor start then it starts reading things from all of the sensors and that allows the motor to run, is my mass air flow bad or my ecu and why does the car have a cylinder head temp sensor and what does that do and could that be the problem? Guest abnormal0
I have 3 ecus so I'm hoping that one is good. One came out of an 85 n/a 300zx and that is what the wiring is for the whole car, it all came out of the same car. when I got the car it had an 88 ecu in it and I ordered an ecu off ebay and I got it and it had a big dent in it and the circuit board is slightly cracked and I was wondering if at all possible, can I sodder the board back together? that ebay ecu is also for an 85, it has the same numbers as my other 85 ecu. mtcookson
Is there such thing as a VG30DET? I thought it was a VG30DETT, that goes in a 90-96 300zx twin turbo. We never got them in the states. The heads on them actually have huge ports compared to the DETT and supposedly the stock rods are somewhat stronger, although oddly enough the overall power output isn't as high, stock, as the DETT. Guest abnormal0
what is the start signal on the ecu box? when I check my sensors and run diagnostics with the ecu it keeps pulling that up and I'm wondering if that might be another reason why my car won't run. what is an ignitor and a transistor for the z31. 260DET
Accel replied saying they had no suitable system, at least they replied Except perhaps for Electromotive there does not appear to be any US supplier of an ECU driven ignition system using the stock Nissan crank angle sensor. Can that be true????? Anyway, I'll be running a MoTec ECU on mine, they have an expander that can do up to eight cylinders sequentially, no wasted spark compramise, probably have to sell a kidney or two to pay for it though. But MoTec is the duck's guts http://www.motec.com.au/

The heads on them actually have huge ports compared to the DETT and supposedly the stock rods are somewhat stronger, although oddly enough the overall power output isn't as high, stock, as the DETT. That's because they ran something measley like 8PSI non-intercooled on a ceramic T3-based turbo and made 280HP. Impressive compared to the DETT. Hmmmm, my SOHC VG put 354 to the wheels on 10PSI so that kind of puts them both to shame.

Can that be true????? On the accel 300+ diagrams, it shows the wires hooking to a crank angle sensor and it shows an alternative, the white wire, I was wondering, the signal wire coming from the stock ecu, is it ground signaled or positive signaled, and is the white wire out of the box hot or ground signaled, and is it possible to hook them together and it all run? And who is Electromotive?
Guest abnormal0
A new ignition module is $124. Does anyone have any remedys of something that might be a bit less expensive. would a junkyard have one that might be operable or do they go bad often? Guest ZFury
MSD 6A ignition box works with the 300ZX ignition system. You will need tach adapter 8910-EIS with it. As for price, they are expensive. Maby a junkyard or Ebay has one.
260DET
On the accel 300+ diagrams' date=' it shows the wires hooking to a crank angle sensor and it shows an alternative, the white wire, I was wondering, the signal wire coming from the stock ecu, is it ground signaled or positive signaled, and is the white wire out of the box hot or ground signaled, and is it possible to hook them together and it all run? Google should bring up Electromotive (or is it Electramotive?).

mtcookson
6A won't work on the DE(T)(TT) as they are coil over plug. He's speaking of the Z31 300ZX, which uses a distributor. I have the 6AL, which is an awesome unit. I think MSD does make some coil over plug setups but I've not looked into it too much. That's because they ran something measley like 8PSI non-intercooled on a ceramic T3-based turbo and made 280HP. Impressive compared to the DETT. Hmmmm, my SOHC VG put 354 to the wheels on 10PSI so that kind of puts them both to shame. Which car is that in? I believe the Leopard (Infiniti M30 + J30) only made about 255 hp and 255 tq with the DET... at least, that's the claimed power.

Electramotive: made race cars, became NPTI, then went kaput. I can't say anything about the ignition question this thread started with, because there is no information on what type of car it is. In one of the replies it was stated it was a VG30E, but that's it.
