OlderThanMe
I know y'all think I am going crazy with all these designs and stuff but I think some of this stuff would be cool. This was a quickie sketch. Each square is 1.625" for simplicity's sake. I'll have a turbo header up later or tomorrow.
veritech-z
Alright OTM, I'll play your game: here's my turbo manifold sketch, to no particular scale (but it does look pretty cool) It's a thumbnail, so click it to make it bigger if you want to check it out. I'll do some measurements tomorrow of my t-4 and the head to strut mount clearance to maybe put some scale on it. *edit* I just measured from the exhaust flange to the strut tower, and it was just over 13", something like 13.5". It's hard to get an exact measurement because all my manifolding is in place, but it seems like a reasonable amount of space to work with. I'll measure my turbo when I get home. It seems like there is more space there than I first thought. This is the engine bay I'll be working with:
katman
Awfully short primaries on the NA. What's the application?
Careless
Alright OTM' date=' I'll play your game: here's my turbo manifold sketch, to no particular scale (but it does look pretty cool) i would make those two pipes that come off the 2 sets of 3 a bit wider. sort of like a collector, as the current design basically fuses 3 pipes into 1 of the same size, which would be a restriction. if you go for 2/3 or 3/4 the size of the 3 pipes combined, you will probably get good low end, and a nice flowing top end. veritech-z
Makes sense, but would that affect the velocity of the exhaust adversly?
Careless
Makes sense, but would that affect the velocity of the exhaust adversly? well the way you have it set up, i'd think you're restricting the exhaust flow. maybe just half a pipe wider, or double the size. i dnno. that's just me =/
veritech-z
I wonder if there is some equation to find that out? I bet there is somewhere. Like I said earlier though, it isn't really to scale. If I went with this design, I'd more than likely implement that idea, it seems like sound logic to me. johnc
On our L6 engines you "typically" want the NA header primaries to be 30 to 32" in length as measured from the back of the exhuast valve to the merge point in the collector.
