dat240zg
Well....kind of a weird thing for you guys. I went to replace the Optispark cap and rotor (The kit that I was putting on was the MSD set for the optispark1) and found that it didn't fit. The shaft that the rotor sits on stuck out too far. I recognize that the shaft sticking out farther is an indicator of the OptiII, but mine is not vented (that I can tell). BTW, the motor is a mid '94 LT1 from the Firehawk. Has anyone run into a mid year optispark that had some of the characteristics of the Opti1 and Opti2? Even Summit was having a hard time matching up the parts. Thoughts anyone? Bueller, Bueller???? 80LS1T
Are you talking about the dowl sticking out of the cam? If so, I think you can just tap it in further. I think I remember reading about what the correct depth should be when installing a not factory cam(don't remember where though?). So I would think that installing it a little deeper into the cam would be perfectly safe. Guy
dat240zg
Thanks Guy. I'll head out and see if there is any movement possible. The dowel was sticking out almost a quarter inch farther than the rotor cap would go on. Bryan
Bartman
Here's a link to a site that has detailed information regarding the opti including pictures. You can see that the vented opti is quite a bit different and requires a different timing cover. As Guy posted, if you have an early opti the cam pin needs to be lower than with a later opti. I did a lot of investigation and wound up upgrading my early opti to a newer vented opti, and I don't think they produced an inbetween model. http://para.noid.org/~muttvette/opti.html
